Twitter Lashing Out at Trump After He Makes Notre Dame Fire About Himself, ‘Shut Up and Let the Pros Work!’
Donald Trump tweeted this afternoon as he, like many many others, watched the coverage of the horrific fire at the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.
“So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris,” Trump tweeted.
He also offered a suggestion on how to put out the fire: “Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out. Must act quickly!”

French President Emmanuel Macron has addressed this disaster via Twitter, saying (via rough translation) “Our Lady of Paris in flames. Emotion of a whole nation. Thought for all Catholics and for all French. Like all our countrymen, I’m sad tonight to see this part of us burn.”
Notre-Dame de Paris en proie aux flammes. Émotion de toute une nation. Pensée pour tous les catholiques et pour tous les Français. Comme tous nos compatriotes, je suis triste ce soir de voir brûler cette part de nous.

The fire department in Paris said that a major operation was underway, Reuters reported.
France 2 television reported that police were treating the blaze as an accident.
The cathedral, which was built in the 13th century, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Paris. It attracts more than 10 million visitors a year.
Twitter is furious that Trump had to make a suggestion about fire tankers:
I just can't handle that #DimwitDon makes EVERYTHING about himself, even in heartbreak. Dumping huge poundage of water – from a plane that spreads it 100s of yards – on a burning old building would make it collapse. And could kill anyone hit by water. SHUT UP,@POTUS, you IDIOT! pic.twitter.com/47EwBkgyyf

Perhaps you could simply do a controlled burn, leaving it unable to spread to the rest of the cathedral. https://t.co/zgcB6zgeVo

Watch him take credit later for telling the firefighters how to do their job https://t.co/WSlKRfr5o8

GODDAMIT! I can't STAND this man. Here a global heartbreak, and he comes in with this crap "I know more than everyone about everything."
Airtankers (not "flying water tankers", you F-ING moron) are used for combating wildfires, NOT building fires. Shut up and let pros work! pic.twitter.com/YR8OjKNKxN

Everyone knows that the right thing to do when priceless, historic, fragile works of art and architecture are endangered is to drop hundreds of tons of water on them.
God, what an embarrassment. https://t.co/RAvD27nakV
