CNN Just Ran a Totally Silent Video Recap of School Shootings and It Will Break Your Heart

On Wednesday, CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin made gut-wrenching use of silence as footage of the most recent school shooting tragedy played out on a screen behind her, in a riveting sequence that concluded with the simple message “ENOUGH.”

Following a commercial break on this afternoon’s edition of CNN Newsroom With Brooke Baldwin, footage was shown of a student tearfully asking Beto O’Rourke about school shootings.

“I’m afraid that one day I’ll go to school and I’ll never come out,” the student asks. “I’m sorry. What actions will you take to protect people like me and my classmates from this happening?”

The shot then dissolved to Baldwin sitting silently next to a monitor flashing alarming school shooting and gun violence statistics.

“If words aren’t changing anything,” the screen read, “then what about these images?”

“Parents waiting to hear their child’s name called… or not,” the graphic read, over images from school shooting scenes. “Children with their hands up… at school. Or clenched… to pray.”

“If this isn’t a crisis now… when will it be?” the screen read. “ENOUGH.”

The minute-and-a-half of silence was finally broken by brief interview clips from the aftermath of Tuesday’s school shooting in Colorado, which killed one and injured eight others.

An emotional Baldwin finally spoke, saying “Those voices, those images are from Highlands Ranch, Colorado, where — where authorities are investigating a school shooting,” and noting that the school is “seven miles from Columbine High School.”
