Trump Makes Bizarre Claim that Melania Has ‘Gotten to Know’ Kim Jong Un

Donald Trump on Monday claimed Melania Trump “got to know” Kim Jong Un despite not bringing the first lady to any of his meetings with the North Korean leader.

“I also say that, by the way, with respect to North Korea. Kim Jong Un, who I’ve gotten to know extremely well, the first lady has gotten to know Kim Jong Un and I think she would agree with me, he is a man with a country that has tremendous potential,” the president said during a press conference at the G7 summit in Biarritz, France.

But Melania Trump did not accompany the president to his June 12, 2018 meeting with Kim in Singapore nor did she join the two leaders at their February 2019 summit in Hanoi. She also was not present at their June meeting at the DMZ.

It is unclear how she would have met Kim.

And as it turns out, Trump was basically lying (surprise!)

White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham released a statement on Monday admitting the two have never actually met.

“President Trump confides in his wife on many issues including the detailed elements of his strong relationship with Chairman Kim — and while the First Lady hasn’t met him, the President feels like she’s gotten to know him too,” stated Grisham, who previously worked in the administration as the first lady’s press secretary.
