Alabama Dem Legislator Proposes Law: All Men Must Have Vasectomies After 3 Kids or at Age 50

Well this only seems fair.

Alabama State Representative Rholanda Hollis, a Democrat from Birmingham, noticed that all laws limiting or requiring reproductive behaviors centered around women, so she set about to level the playing field, so to speak.

State Rep. Rolanda Hollis (D-Birmingham) on Thursday filed a bill that would mandate every Alabama man to undergo a vasectomy within one month of his 50th birthday or the birth of his third biological child, whichever comes first.

“Whichever comes first?” Setting aside the fact that we’re convinced that most Alabama men likely ensure they have that aspect covered in most settings, we’ll move on to the law. With respect to three children or by age 50, it would seem that a whole lot of Alabama men might be getting vasectomies at age 24 if the stereotype holds true. As a man who is nearing age 50 myself (with two proto-kids to spare!), I might object, except for the fact that I’ve noticed how little society regards women who have reached menopause and thus, this part, too – only seems fair.

Of course the bill is “fair,” it is submitted by a Democrat.

Democrats in the Alabama legislature last year brought up the possibility of introducing such a bill during the abortion debate on 2019’s HB 314, known as the Human Life Protection Act.

“Under existing law, there are no restrictions on the reproductive rights of men,” states the introduction to Hollis’ new bill, HB 238.

Yes, yes, we realize it is a “statement” bill. It has no chance of passing and would be unconstitutional for a thousand different reasons (much like the anti-abortion bills the state passes). But for those who continually tell us about the sanctity of life in the womb, to the extent they want full control of women’s bodies, it would be an interesting moral exercise to see the response to a trade, across the board.

“Wanna Deal? Ban on Abortion in exchange for mandatory vasectomy after 3 kids or age 50?

“Is life that sacred to you?”

In other words, Alabama men, are you willing to make even a small sacrifice for this life? Or are you only willing to take full command of women’s bodies?

Peace, y’all
