Media and Nation in an Outrage Over Trump’s Blatant Lies During Press Conference

Having watched and written about every press conference for the last three weeks, today was – by far – the most offensive and ridiculous press conference yet. Trump dodged, Trump lied, Trump was insane: “The Fourth of July last year was like the MLK ‘I had a dream speech.'”

Trump attacked the media, “Some questions are good, some are ridiculous,” “headlines were wrong.”

Trump forced the CDC Director to “correct” his clear statement to the Washington Post.

And the worst one, “We may have no COVID next fall, it might go away” and if it comes back: “It won’t be nearly as bad.”

To say that people reacted with outrage is a huge understatement. He believes we are morons, and the con man can con us again.

It was ridiculous. Everyone knows what he addressed. The CDC knows what is coming in the fall, but Trump won’t have it. It has to be possible that it’s going away. Everything is perfect.

Chris Hayes: “We continue to see this dangerous pattern, where a president puts his P.R. ahead of the country’s position.”

We interrupt this column to publish the only good news coming out today:

Trump needs to address the fact that Trump is firing anyone – no matter how needed – if they don’t get on board with the message that everything is perfect, we have medicines (hydroxychloroquine) that will beat this, “try it” Trump said, and they wanted to make the drug available to every American. Dr. Bright opposed the reckless pushing of the drug, and he is now basically “fired,” (re-assigned, but taking him out of vaccine development).

We needed Dr. Bright. As he said, he had been preparing for this his whole life. The nation’s leading scientist on vaccines is now out of the job, all because he protested Trump advocating for dangerous medicine that, so far, has killed more patients than those who went without it.

The expert on Chris Hayes’ show just stated he cannot justify pulling our nation’s best vaccine person out of his position for insufficient loyalty. Today Trump also twisted a clear quote from CDC Dr. Redfield which said we might have a more dangerous situation in the fall, and that is just unacceptable to this administration.

This lie, and this move, is so infuriating, and many people are jumping upon what it signals concerning Trump leading the nation during this period.

It is also very important to appreciate the fact that Trump isn’t “all there” cognitively. I don’t think anyone can know the exact reason. But this physician is convinced it is the cognitive decline and sets out horrific examples of real behavior that we have seen. Knowing that someone compromised is making decisions (and it’s always risking the easy answer), it’s all just terrifying, and people know it.

I am scared.

Last item. We will never get sufficient testing under Trump. Testing only confirms more cases. Trump likes the numbers where they are. Almost 50,000 deaths later, Trump is still acting like the boat is in the harbor, he doesn’t want numbers going up.

It is sickening.
