‘New Republic’ Nails It: Questions Whether Trump Is Too Stupid to Be President

Yes. Forget all the other reasons Donald Trump is a terrible choice to be president.

He is also simply too stupid.

That is the overall conclusion to a rather in-depth look by Bruce Bartlett – former Republican Economist – as to whether Trump even has sufficient knowledge and analytical ability to be president of the United States.

From the earliest days of his administration, it has been obvious to everyone who has come in direct contact with him that Trump knows very, very little about any policy issue or even how the federal government operates. Among those most alarmed by Trump’s ignorance and incompetence were those in the military and intelligence community. After a National Security Council meeting on January 19, 2018, Defense Secretary James Mattis told aides that Trump had the understanding of  “a fifth- or sixth-grader.”

When people apply for U.S. citizenship, as I did, we are given a test. The test isn’t something one could pass by simply watching CNN, it’s an actual test regarding the structure of the United States government, top to bottom.

I honestly wonder if Trump could’ve passed that test when he took office. Could he pass it now? I don’t think Mattis was exaggerating when he said that Trump has the “understanding of a 5th or 6th grader.” Think about it. We’ve heard him talk! He talks about maybe using bleach to kill the Coronavirus, seemingly unaware that, while bleach certainly will kill viruses, it will also kill every other cell with which it comes in contact. Does Trump know that we’re made of cells? Is there any evidence he does?

Speaking of which:

To this day, Trump pays very little attention to his intelligence briefings. He received repeated warnings about the coronavirus that he completely ignored—at great cost in terms of lives. Long after the seriousness of the pandemic became too serious for him to ignore and after many briefings on the subject, Trump continued to make ridiculous comments about unproven cures, including some that are simply nonsensical.

This has been the killer – literally, this is where his stupidity has killed and will continue to kill. His refusal to wear a mask will surely have consequences down the road as his followers refuse to wear a mass, too. It is pure stupidity mixed in with a lot of arrogance.

He has thoroughly embarrassed us on the international scene, to the point where one man has set the entire world back, through his own stupidity:

German Chancellor Angela Merkel was despondent at the 2017 G7 meeting, where Trump showed no awareness of climate change and rejected international cooperation to deal with it. According to Der Spiegel, “His speech was a break from centuries of Enlightenment and rationality. The president presented his political statement as a nationalist manifesto of the most imbecilic variety. It couldn’t have been any worse. His speech was packed with make-believe numbers from controversial or disproven studies. It was hypocritical and dishonest.”

Angela Merkel, along with Macron from France and Trudeau in Canada form a triangulation of the “leaders of the western free world,” if this is their assessment (and they were the ones laughing at him), then who am I to doubt it?

Yes, he is too stupid to be president.
