This New Ad Should Be the End of Trump, ‘This Is What It Looks Like When a President Gives Up’

As you know by now, the United States had a record number of new COVID cases, today, June 25th, 2020. This last week has felt somewhat like early March, the dawning realization that a process has slipped out of control, news reports from various areas showing ICUs filling, numbers released by tired officials with graphs going straight up, recalculating plans, and – if you’re in certain states, all-time high numbers.

The only thing that feels different between now and March is that in March we believed that the regulatory structure in the federal government had Donald Trump’s ear, and could scare Trump into action. To be fair, once society decided to shut down, the NBA, etc. Trump followed suit. That was then. Now, Trump is actively working against those of us who believe everything needs to be shut down for a time, again. It feels like had Trump done one thing differently, had Trump just demanded that everyone wear a mask, and wear a MAGA mask everywhere he went, scolding people without them, it feels like we wouldn’t be here. Trump is working against us now.

Thus it is that we face what isn’t a “2nd Wave” so much as a “Red Wave,” as the pandemic hits red states stuffed with people who take pride in not wearing a mask and opening way too early, Texas, Florida, Georgia, and the West. When the blue wave hit, the entire nation went into action. Now with the red wave, we have a president who has given up on COVID, and indeed given up on running the country under any pretense but to help himself. Trump has given up.

And the net knows it.

We have had our share of good and bad presidents throughout history. But at least over the last few generations, no president has ever faced the charge that he “gave up” on the American people. and yet that is exactly what Trump has done. He never did have a good attention span, they stopped daily intelligence briefings, moving them to three times a week – they bored Trump. Now he’s bored with COVID. No meetings, no new policies, no “news,” no leadership, no nothing. Trump has given up.
