Trump-Loving Evangelical Leader Blames Trump’s Bad Poll Numbers On ‘Weak Christians’

Evangelical pastor Robert Jeffress is blaming President Donald Trump’s poor performance in the polls on”weak Christians.” They are too easily swayed by public opinion, he claims, and “they don’t want to be thought of as bad by other people.”

Jeffress is a Trump supporter of the worst stripe who loves attention, The Dallas Observer notes, and in March during one sermon at his First Baptist Dallas Church, he blamed sin as the cause of the coronavirus pandemic.

And as Joe.My.God. notes Jeffress has claimed all Jews and Mormons are hell-bound, and that Obama is the precursor to the antichrist. He also asserts that LGBTQ people need to be saved from Satan’s deception and that God designed the borders of the U.S.

But, in an interview with the American Family Association’s program OneNewsNow, Jeffress, who’s one of Trump’s “spiritual advisers,” took aim at the mainstream media and Christians who don’t stand up for their president.

“There’s just been a trifecta of bad circumstances that have formed a perfect storm: the pandemic, the economic fallout from the pandemic, the lawlessness and riots in the streets, … [but also] the unrelenting and unprecedented criticism from the mainstream media,” Jeffress said.

The American Family Association is designated as a hate group by The Southern Poverty Law Center, but are you really surprised Jeffress would appear on this program?

And Jeffress can’t find it in himself to blame the president for the current chaos the U.S. is in, even though it’s almost single-handedly his fault. Instead, it’s those “weak Christian voters” who are responsible for all of this.

“The fact is, most people — and I have to say it, most Christians — are weak when you get down to it. They are very weak.”

“They bow with public opinion, and they don’t want to be thought of as bad by other people,” Jeffress added. “And so they just go back and forth … and I think all of that is contributing to the drop in the polls that we’re seeing.”

This from a man who also claims civil war will erupt if Trump is removed from office and that God gave the president the moral authority to order the assassinations of foreign leaders. Jeffress is just one of a legion of nutty people who will hopefully disappear after the November presidential election. We can only hope.
