Federalist Society Co-Founder: Trump’s Election Tweet Is Grounds For Impeachment and Removal

The Federalist Society was always a tough fit for Trump. There is nothing that says “Right wing” more than the Federalist Society, but they’re also “old school, money Right-wing.” Evidently they believed that their list of judges was an important enough matter to just let go and support their puppet (they are the ones who provided the list). There is no question that the next president will also have to appoint at least one and possibly up to three new SCOTUS judges. The right-wing is licking its lips at the chance to be able to hand the list of justices over to a puppet.

Except something has happened. Trump went too far. Way too far. And he went too far for the Federalist Society, whose co-founder, Steven Calabresi – a law professor at Northwestern and someone who has backed Trump through the last election, through Trump’s Ukrainian impeachment, and everything else, has apparently had enough and sees the danger we’ve all seen for years. Calabresi sees Trump as a fascist. He wants Trump gone, now. From the New York Times:

I have voted Republican in every presidential election since 1980, including voting for Donald Trump in 2016. I wrote op-eds and a law review article protesting what I believe was an unconstitutional investigation by Robert Mueller. I also wrote an op-ed opposing President Trump’s impeachment.

But I am frankly appalled by the president’s recent tweet seeking to postpone the November election. Until recently, I had taken as political hyperbole the Democrats’ assertion that President Trump is a fascist. But this latest tweet is fascistic and is itself grounds for the president’s immediate impeachment again by the House of Representatives and his removal from office by the Senate.

So the guy who supported Trump through Mueller and the last impeachment now sees the threat to put off the election as serious enough – just the tweet – to impeach and remove, in an expedited fashion, we presume? And it’s only gotten worse since that tweet because Trump’s been questioned aggressively about it and he’s doubled and tripled down.

One of two things is happening here: Either Calabresi really is suddenly shocked by Trump’s behavior and sees a nation circling the drain as the dates tick down to an election that Trump intends to put off – or make irrelevant, as a fascist.

Or:

Calabresi is signaling the senate and every other Republican politician that it’s time to dump Trump, everyone at the same time. It may be that Calabresi does want an election to keep us out of a dictatorship, but also knows that Trump will lose that election.

What to do? In either case – and the second is more likely – the answer is to remove Trump ASAP so that they can get another GOP candidate on the ballot. We have said for quite some time that Trump had a 50-50 chance of stepping down in July. He’s made it to the last day, but he’s not totally out of the woods.

It will be interesting to see if any of the GOP senators listen. Probably not – but the polls continue to get worse.
