GOP in a Panic: Trump May Have Unwittingly Cost Himself One of His Biggest Donors

In some ways, it is a miracle that the money flowing into the GOP didn’t stop long ago. Yes, it is true that Wall Street and many billionaires from other industries all love conservative, pro-business judges (the GOP justification for Trump), but no one can reliably make money in an unstable environment, or at least no one can reliably hang on to money in instability. The rich love stability, but Trump is anti-matter to molecules of stability. One would think that the very wealthy on the Right would have pushed Trump out soon after defeating Hillary, the economy might not imploding to this degree if they had. But they have stuck with him, for now.

That might be changing, especially with one of the Right’s biggest sugar daddies, Sheldon Adelson, who is reportedly very upset with Trump after a phone call between the two, in which Adelson wanted to discuss the stimulus package (Adelson wants to get back to making money) and Trump wanted to talk donations to him and his fortunes. It infuriated Adelson.

That phone call — described as “contentious” — has Republican Party officials panicked that Adelson may hold back million-dollar contributions to the party in an election year where GOP candidates are already struggling to hang onto their seats….

…. Politico goes on to note that Adelson wanted to talk about the latest round of coronavirus aid being negotiated in Congress, but the president turned the conversation to his re-election prospects and the need for more support.

According to one insider who was privy to the call, “it was apparent the president had no idea how much Adelson, who’s donated tens of millions of dollars to pro-Trump efforts over the years, had helped him. Adelson chose not to come back at Trump.”

Now the GOP is terrified that Adelson won’t be cutting any checks soon to the GOP. Leave it to Trump to be so self-absorbed that he didn’t know how much money certain people have given him and can’t bring himself to listen to people who might help him. Adelson wanted to talk about the stimulus and what might be good for business, Trump wanted to talk about himself and his prospects.

It would be wholly fitting for Adelson to walk away, finally clued into the fact that Trump is about Trump, no matter how many millions you donate, he will sell you out and worry about himself, always.
