Fox News host Tucker Carlson couldn’t be bothered to correct his repeatedly incorrect pronunciation of Kamala Harris’s name, which occurred just hours after President Donald Trump took plenty of potshots at her, calling the presumptive vice-presidential candidate, calling her “disrespectful…horrible…extraordinarily nasty.”

Harris’s first name is pronounced “KAM-a-la” with the stress on the first syllable. But if you watched Carlson’s show on Tuesday, you heard him say “Ka-MAL-a” repeatedly, without offering any apologies, even though he was mildly corrected by his guest, Democratic political consultant Richard Goodstein, Deadline reports.

“This is something that will serve you and your fellow Fox News hosts,” Goodstein said, providing the proper pronunciation.

“OK,” Carlson snapped back, clearly angry. “So what?”

“I think out of respect for someone who’s going to be on the national ticket, pronouncing her name right is kind of a bare minimum,” Goodstein replied.

Carlson responded by laughing.

“So I’m disrespecting her by mispronouncing her intentionally?” Carlson said. “So it begins. You’re not allowed to criticize Ka-MAL-a Harris or KAM-a-la?”

“Look, I unintentionally mispronounced her name,” he added and then returned to arguing that “political leaders must be held to account. That’s our job.”

Deadline writer Tom Tapp couldn’t help but note the irony of the situation since part of Carlson’s job also entails pronouncing names “written on a teleprompter correctly.”

“He is also presumably required to be able to pronounce the names of sitting U.S. senators, candidates for president and their vice presidential picks. No political newcomer, Harris has been in all three categories at some time in the past 12 months.”

Carlson recently unloaded on former President Barack Obama for the eulogy he gave late last month for Rep. John Lewis’s memorial service, by calling the former president “greasy” and “one of the sleaziest and most dishonest figures in the history of American politics” because he used “George Floyd’s death at a funeral to attack the police.”

But that’s Carlson for you. Attack a former president when the current occupant of the White House is a pedophile, a raging racist who’s driving the U.S. economy into the ground, and somehow Donald Trump, said current occupant, isn’t sleazy?

Pretty amazing how Carlson can make that leap.

One wonders if Carlson would be more polite to Harris if she were a Republican. Or if she didn’t have brown skin. Just a thought. Here’s his nonsensical argument with Goodstein below.
