Republicans are Now Talking About Usurping the Election and Putting Trump Back in Office

Over the last couple of days we noted that of late Mitch McConnell, Kayleigh McEnany, Tucker Carlson, and a Pennsylvania legislator have been openly discussing “waiting for the electoral college.” People who read this site and what we’ve reported for months know exactly what that means and it makes you shiver. We are not always “right” in our opinions or predictions, but we’ve had a record that’s been a little too good lately and we’re not necessarily bragging about that now. But we did see this coming and so did all of our readers.

Our hero, Charlie Pierce over at Esquire, now has a column out in which he states he will not be comfortable until Joe Biden takes his hand off the Bible and he has damned good reason.

Charlie now sees what they’re planning and Charlie has a quote from the highest guy up, so far, with the closest relationship with Trump (McConnell is NOT “close” to Trump, McConnell likely wishes he had a Federalist Society appointed president), that should scare us to death. Because, this quote comes from Ron DeSantis and THAT is a man who would know the plan because he’s shilling for Trump right now, begging for money while also mentioning straight up the plan:

DeSantis, one of Trump’s close Republican allies, declared Thursday on Laura Ingraham’s show on Fox News he would stand with Trump as the president’s re-election chances dimmed. He urged viewers to donate to Trump’s legal fund and suggested people living in battleground states with GOP legislatures, specifically Michigan and Pennsylvania, contact their state lawmakers who could provide “remedies…Under Article II of the Constitution, presidential electors are done by the legislatures and the schemes they create and the framework,” DeSantis said. “If there’s departure from that, if they’re not following law, if they’re ignoring the law, then they can provide remedies as well, so I would exhaust every option to make sure we have a fair count.”

“If there is a departure from that …”

Fck-you, DeSantis! The “departure” would be if any of these legislatures sent any “electors” to the Electoral College BUT those representing the person who won the election in their state, the one certified by their Secretary of State. THAT would be the departure from the law, the constitution, from democracy, from the United States – it would be, quite literally, Donald Trump’s coup d’état.

Everyone here has known since at least September that this was the plan of last resort and we knew and reported on the fact that they would at least try it and see if they could get away with it. We worry this is why Trump is refusing to concede and worry that it is why Trump won’t give Biden the intelligence briefing – it could contain information that includes “help” in this area, with respect to threats to these legislators. Remember, we didn’t get into this position without threats to “normal GOP pols.” Lindsey Graham didn’t suddenly become Trump’s biggest defender overnight because of any principle. Something happened.

Now we have to worry and we, too, will not stop worrying until Joe Biden’s hand comes off the Bible.
