We never let the stupid comments of one person, no matter how high, reflect on the people of a city or state. There are plenty of good people in Houston. And yet yesterday a story broke about a city councilman who felt the need to compare Michelle Obama and Melania Trump. As much as we love Michelle and as much as we disdain Melania, there is absolutely no point in breaking them both down on looks alone. How they act? Maybe so.

Houston City Councilman Greg Travis said the post, made to his personal Facebook account on Dec. 21, is a repost of a meme from the internet.  The post includes two photographs – one of Mrs. Obama, the other of Mrs. Trump. Both women were seated – Mrs. Obama, wearing a pantsuit, is seated without legs crossed.  Mrs. Trump, also wearing a pantsuit, is seated with her legs crossed.

Travis actually said that the meme had been out there “forever” and that he just believes that one (of the two women) is classier, and apparently, this is very important to Travis. He is quite confident in his position. We have not seen a picture of Greg Travis, but we think we have a good idea about his race.

He used an interview to explain why he did something so absurd.

“Well, I just think that one represents the First Lady ideal. Michelle Obama has always been too political for me,” Travis continued.

“Ideal.” That sounds close to “perfection.” And he thinks Melania, the woman who never stopped talking about the media and what it was doing to her “less political.” Moreover, Michelle has saved her political activities to the post-First Lady time. Maybe it matters that one has a law degree from Harvard and the other … does not.

“I have every right to my opinion. They have every right to their opinion. I don’t tell other people they can’t have their opinion,” said Councilman Greg Travis, District G, who added, “They can call for whatever they want. I’m not resigning.”

We doubt he’s resigning. He will just be hated and protested.

Councilman Travis maintains his comment specifically was directed toward his thoughts on the former First Lady’s performance in the unelected position. He said it wasn’t racist, nor misogynist.

Oh! Well, thanks for that! Now we know that there was nothing “wrong” with it, so all is good. Pfft.

Here it is, cool kids, non-racist, non-misogynists.

He just wouldn’t just up in the interview:

“Everybody can have an opinion. What makes me have a right to an opinion is that I’m an individual. I’m a person and every person has a right to their opinion. I have a right to have opinions about men and women.  I have a right to have opinions about everything. This wasn’t directed at anybody except one person, Michelle Obama.  I don’t hate Michelle Obama, I just don’t think she’s all that.”

First of all, he has a right to an opinion. The question is why he would care about how they sit or ideals as something that matters. We have opinions, too. We just don’t have opinions on stupid things like that. Oh, and the “It was directed at Michelle Obama,” so it wasn’t even a compliment to Melania, it was to tell Michelle he doesn’t think she’s all that. We are shocked that a MAGA would believe such a thing!

We comment from time to time about the fact that Melania never appears in anything but expensive clothing that makes her look like a model. We make those points for the sole purpose of noting that Melania never “dresses down” to relate to the American people, she never “looks” like a normal American woman. It is nothing about “ideals” or “classiness” or too political.”

The guy’s a dick. A racist, misogynist, dick.
