Whoopi Goldberg Demolishes Trump: ‘You’re Not Running in 2024, You’ll Be in Jail!’

We have said on many occasions that we love The View for its smart analysis and the fact it makes up (somewhat) for the insufficient number of women in the political-media world. Plus, Whoopi can walk into any room, anywhere in the world, and immediately be the coolest person in the room. We exclude MAGAs, of course.

If Whoopi goes after you, you’re in for a bad day. She went after Trump today, as she has many times in the past, and yet as searing as Whoopi has been on occasion before, she went next-level today:

The entire panel began to discuss the impact of all the pardons that are soon to be flying in everywhere from Trump world. Per Rawstory:

Tuesday, it was reported that Rudy Giuliani asked Trump to pardon him for anything he may or may not have done that could necessitate such a pardon. Giuliani has been trotting around the country, waging as many lawsuits as possible in an attempt to change the results of the 2020 election. There were reports that Giuliani might be under a federal investigation for his involvement in the Ukraine scandal that got Trump impeached. No information about that has surfaced publicly, however.

Giuliani is getting a pardon because he knows too much. It is a tough balance for Trump because a pardon removes someone’s ability to claim the 5th Amendment and STFU. It means Rudy must answer every question put to him and do it truthfully, or that’s a new crime, post-pardon. Trump doesn’t want Rudy talking to anyone about anything. Nor does he want Rudy out running around waiting to be arrested, which he surely is and wanting a deal. In a bad balance, Rudy’s getting a pardon.

Whoopi brought the conversation back to where it belonged and in doing so wondered whether a president could pardon himself. (No, IMO). She then said:

There’s so much going on. I’m like, why are we talking about the pardon? Let’s put that at the bottom of the priority list, so we can worry about what America actually needs. Then we can deal with Trump once we get everyone out of the White House, put the new group in the White House. There’s so much going on. I’m like why are you talk about this, dude?”

That is the correct question.

Whoopi then noted the difficult analysis mentioned above, saying that Trump hasn’t necessarily thought this through in handing out pardons, forcing everyone to testify. We can virtually assure you, they have thought it through and know there is no perfect answer but it’s better to error on the side of pardons.

Then she laid the hammer regarding pardon power with respect to Trump:

He can try to pardon himself federally … There are all these people waiting. Letitia James is waiting with her foot. She is patting that foot, waiting for him to take a step out. He keeps saying he’s going to run in 2024. You’re not going to run in 2024 if you’re in jail, my friend. is waiting with her foot. She is patting that foot, waiting for him to take a step out. He keeps saying he’s going to run in 2024. You’re not going to run in 2024 if you’re in jail, my friend.

Don’t touch that, it’s hot!

Except Whoopi hasn’t necessarily thought through all things either. It is not necessarily in this country’s interests for states to get involved in convicting ex-presidents. Imagine what Alabama will do to Joe Biden if we start doing this? For national health, it would be infinitely better for the federal government to prosecute Trump. It would be too big a bite to chew for a state to imprison an ex-president. That should be a national decision made by a national government in our opinion.

If Trump gives himself a “self-pardon” let him try it and we’ll all see if that’s a “thing.” We don’t believe so and we especially don’t believe so if it goes up against clear evidence of serious state secrets or international conflicts types of crime, those may not survive a Pence pardon. Not all crimes are equal. If the pardon goes up against some financial scheme here in the U.S., that’s one thing. If a self-pardon goes up against concealed conflicts and direction from the Russian mob, that is completely different.

Even courts get it.

But so does Whoopi.
