Veteran GOP Senator Says Republicans May Need New Party or Be Trump Hostages For Years

William Cohen, who was a powerful GOP Senator before doing other jobs with political influence, just said what far too few in the GOP have dared to say. They have got to get rid of this Trump idiot before he crashes the entire thing into an iceberg and brings it all down.

The only problem is that the MAGAs are going to MAGA, and since the MAGAs call themselves Republicans, the Grand Old Party might want to toss that “old” stuff and become the “GNP,” the Grand New Party.

From Newsweek:

Cohen, who was a GOP U.S. senator for Maine between 1979 and 1997, took aim at GOP lawmakers indulging Trump’s unfounded claims of election fraud, and said that division among Republicans was so stark that it should form a new party.

Describing Trump as a “ringmaster” who can “snap his whip and all of the elephants jump on the chairs,” Cohen said that Republicans who back Trump’s rejection of the election result were storing up problems for the party in the future.

Yes, well, as obvious as that sounds, there are a couple of problems with that. Of course, the first and biggest part is that the MAGAs ain’t coming. So the problem becomes how do you win an election with only half your voters? The other thing is that it’s really hard to predict how ex-presidents get to be seen. They can be forgotten rather quickly, or not.

We get it, “some Democrats will come over to a middle party that …” Yes, a few, not nearly enough.

Far more in the GOP need to be crying out this very thing in order to try to tone him down, some. But as good as that sounds it’s not a great solution.  Then again, there is no great solution.

“He is always going to up the ante, he cannot be satisfied. There’s nothing in him. There’s no moral core and so they are going to be extorted or bribed in order to avoid a primary in 2022 or 2024.”

No shit?

Wow. Glad we don’t have that problem. Our ex-president is the coolest guy on the planet. Good luck.
