Americans OUTRAGED at American Idol’s Exploitation of Claudia Conway for Ratings: ‘Reached Rock Bottom’
Any regular reader at this news site knows that we’ve followed the Claudia Conway saga with tremendous sadness, along with serious concern and support for young Claudia. Claudia’s appearance on American Idol last night may have represented society’s new low, and good Americans are absolutely outraged.
To be sure, Claudia had full parental support for her appearance. We do not judge other parents’ decisions, at least not where there is no true physical or psychological abuse. We all have enough to worry about in raising our own kids to judge others. We can say that we’d likely disagree with the Conways’ decision to allow Claudia to perform but not criticize them personally.
We damn sure can criticize American Idol’s decision to have Claudia appear at all. We did not watch her tryout. She likely has a nice voice. A “nice voice” is never enough to get serious attention on American Idol. There is a reason that we’re not all rock stars and billionaire singers. One has to have rare talent and we doubt Claudia has that rare talent. What would be the odds? The troubled girl in the news is the new Lady Gaga?
Clearly, American Idol put Claudia Conway on as a ratings extravaganza. We at this website definitely know that ratings matter. Without ratings, one has to get an actual job and we feel the pain. But no matter how hard survival might be, we choose to fail and cease to exist over abusing anyone or exploiting people by misleading them. Life is too short to waste a good portion being harmful.

So American Idol – which makes plenty of money or it wouldn’t still exist – simply exploited Claudia for more money. We don’t care that Claudia wanted to appear or that her parents allowed it, none of that excuses Idol. And MANY Americans agree:
Claudia Conway’s appearance on “American Idol” — the worst sort of exploitation of a minor that reality TV has done in memory — ought to prompt real soul-searching among ABC executives. My column: https://t.co/OWm8HZWdlE

American Idol is gross for allowing an abusive creature like Kellyanne Conway to rehab her image on the show, and using Claudia Conway's pain to make a quick buck.
Disgusting.

“Child” is the operative word. In older traditional law, we call anyone under 18 an “infant.” Claudia is not an “infant,” but she is certainly not an adult. She is a troubled kid, and American Idol knew it. They went there anyway and that IS abuse, and indefensible.
And she’s not a bad singer, but she’ll make it to the end…but won’t win:
****
Peace, y’all
