GOP Hypocrisy

Sarah Huckabee Sanders GLOATS as Trump Attends Her Campaign Event for Governor

Former President Donald Trump dropped in on a campaign event for his former press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who plans to run for governor of Arkansas.

And of course, Sanders couldn’t resist boasting about this in a tweet, The Hill reports.

“Great weekend on the campaign trail featuring a surprise appearance at one of my events by President Trump,” she wrote Sunday evening, adding a phot of herself and the former president.

Sanders, a Republican, is the daughter of Mike Huckabee, who served as governor of Arkansas in the 1990s and early 2000s. She announced her intentions to run earlier this year.

“As governor, I will defend your right to be free of socialism and tyranny, your Second Amendment right, your freedom of speech, and religious liberty,” she said in a video released earlier this year.

Quite obviously she equates socialism with tyranny, which is ridiculous. Socialism is a political philosophy that calls for public, rather than private ownership or control of private property and natural resources, Britannica notes. It’s a doctrine that calls for the community, rather than a few private individuals to benefit as a whole. But Republicans like to use scare tactics in talking about this, so far too many people have the wrong idea about what socialism really is.

That’s the end of my lecture on socialism, folks. I’m just tired of Republicans twisting it around and implying it’s something it’s clearly not.

Sanders also used the opportunity to tout what she framed as Trump’s historic achievements as president.

“I took on the media, the radical left, and their cancel culture and I won,” she told the audience. “As governor, I will be your voice and never let them silence you.”

Not long after that, Trump endorsed her run for governor.

“Sarah is strong on borders, tough on crime and fully supports the Second Amendment and our great law enforcement officers,” Trump said in a statement. “She loves our military and veterans — and her home state of Arkansas. She will be a GREAT Governor and she has my complete and total endorsement.”

It’s been nearly two months since Trump left office (yay!) and in that time he’s been fighting with the Republican Party because it continues to use his name and likeness to encourage donations for mainstream candidates, something that Trump is clearly against, and he has announced his intentions to support candidates whose views are more closely aligned to his.

And the bad news is that a steep majority of Republicans still continue to support Trump and would vote for him should he run for president again, according to some polls, per The Hill.

When 2024 comes around the Democrats will need to be on their game. While a FiveThirtyEight poll shows that Trump’s approval rating was dismal, it seems to me that people have short memories and I can only hope the Democrats will mount a successful defense. President Joe Biden will be nearly 82 then and his age may weigh on the minds of some people.
