Election 2020

Ivanka Trump Has Broken Up With Dear Ol’ Dad and is Seeking a ‘Less Complicated Life’

Even though it’s now been months since Donald Trump left office he hasn’t quit complaining that he’s the victim of a “stolen election” and it looks like this has created a rift between him and his eldest daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner. The couple was, without question, Trump’s closest advisors but his rants, which often last for hours, have driven them away, CNN Politics reports. CNN says Vanky wants a “less complicated life for her family” and so she has been “distancing” herself from her father and his crazy conspiracy theory-loving behavior.

And even though her father has a continual audience of supporters and sometimes talks of returning to politics, the gap continues to widen every week, according to at least 12 former Trump White House officials, former administration officials, family friends, and acquaintances, and members of Trump’s team told CNN.

But it’s not just Trump’s seeming inability to accept facts that he lost, he’s now also questioning where Kushner, one of a scant few people who managed to stay close to the then-president throughout his two presidential campaigns and waning days as president, fits in the scope of his presidential legacy.

Ivanka is also trying to disentangle herself from the confines of her role as the president’s daughter-confidante inside the White House while seeking a quieter life for her family, two acquaintances recently said. As it stands she’s torn between embracing dear old dad and his election lies.

Indeed, while the Kushners spent more than five years as Trump’s right-hand team, they’ve now been scarce around Mar-a-Lago and have maintained that scarcity now that he’s spending the summer in a cottage at his private Bedminster, New Jersey golf club.

“They weren’t around for the usual spring and summer events at Mar-a-Lago,” one club member who’s a family friend noted, adding that Jared, Ivanka, and their three children have largely been absent.

Kushner’s shrinking absence has grown even rarer as the realization hit that the former president was never going to give up his preoccupation with the 2020 election, one source familiar with the situation said.

“He was kind of like a parent who sticks around less and less each morning while they’re transitioning their kid to daycare,” the source said.

And people who know Kushner said it’s not the physical distance that’s keeping him away. Instead, he’s doing his best to keep away from Trump’s contempt and the constant string of voices who continue cheering him on.

“Trump always has an array of characters around him,” said another source who worked in the administration.

Some of the former president’s most trusted advisers began encouraging him in March to add some new blood to his team to oversee daily operations and help him organize fundraisers, meet with potential candidates and refine his endorsement process.

“I don’t think it’s accurate to say he needed a new Jared, because Jared was always more of a policy guy inside the White House, but there was definitely a sense that some part of the puzzle was missing and it was contributing to a lot of internal confusion and chaos,” said one former White House official.

CNN notes that led Trump to bring on Susie Wiles, a Florida-based consultant whom he trusted and was well-known to others on his payroll. But even her visits and overall involvement waned, especially since Trump is now in New Jersey for the summer, noted another source.

I think it can be said that Trump’s magic ship has sunk and the rats have fled. Of course, the fact that dear old dad may testify against Ivanka or possibly even Melania probably hasn’t helped this situation.

Frankly, it brings to mind another of my dad’s old sayings: “When you lie down with dogs, you get fleas.”
