“Enjoy the long weekend.”

Yes, yes, Vice President Harris, as vice president, probably should have included something about remembering our fallen heroes, which is the entire point of the long weekend. We should all do more on Memorial Day to actually memorialize our service members who gave their lives. And yet, anyone who hears “Memorial Day” and doesn’t first think: “Unofficial opening of summer,” can cast the first stone.

But the MAGA’s outrage over the tweet was absurd, actually, it was more fake than absurd. The MAGAs don’t care about the tweet so much as they love to express their hatred of Kamala Harris. Have no doubt that the MAGA see Harris as a possible president in waiting (rightly or wrongly) and their ugly disdain for her at least equals that which they had for Obama.

It was all too much for Jimmy Kimmel, who took the MAGAs’ hypocrisy with more than a touch of anger. Kimmel called out Nikki Haley directly. Haley had called the Harris tweet “Unprofessional” and “Unfit.” Kimmel wasn’t having it. According to The Guardian:

“This is the same Nikki Haley, who said nothing when Trump said he prefers war heroes who don’t get captured,” Kimmel fumed. “That was OK, no comment there. But tweeting ‘enjoy the long weekend,’ makes you unfit, when the truth is, you know who’s unfit? This guy is,” he said over a photo of Donald Trump on the golf course.

Kimmel also had some cutting words for retired general Mike Flynn, who had said that there is no reason that what happened in Myanmar (a military coup) shouldn’t happen here. Flynn quickly retracted the statement when it went public and upset all Americans who treasure democracy. Flynn wrote on Telegram:

“Let me be VERY CLEAR – There is NO reason whatsoever for any coup in America [sic], and I do not and have not at any time called for any action of that sort.”

Kimmel took over from there:

“Except for this weekend, when you did it on video, and the times you did it leading up to January 6th. Maybe that’s the Bill Gates micro-chip making him say that.”

Late-night talk show hosts used to make remaining apolitical a point of pride. This can no longer be the case and we choose to applaud those that do, especially when simply pointing out the most awful of the awful MAGAs.
