Jim Acosta is FURIOUS: Scolds Entire Country, We’re Not Doing Enough to Hold Trump-MAGAs Accountable for Threats to Democracy

At first, it seems a bit presumptuous and a little arrogant. How can Jim Acosta dare say that none of us are doing enough?

Except that he’s surely right, in a way. He also seems to be holding himself accountable in his statement and it is correct to say that the country is not responding to the threat that the MAGAs present and the MAGA politicians know the truth about the big lie and the riot, and yet are willing to let it go, perhaps with the hope that he will go.

Whatever it might be, it does “feel” like the country never responded with enough anger and conviction. The threat is so serious that it should be dominating coverage and there should be weekly news, action from the DOJ, action from the White House, and the rest of us, to hold them accountable.

We will especially single out DOJ because of their complete inactivity beyond putting rioters in jail, which means nothing long term. Where is the investigation of the people who organized the event? We have news this week that Mike Pence refused to get in a Secret Service SUV to be driven away from the Capitol. Pence didn’t trust the Secret Service. Why! It seems like Pence knew.

And so Accosta went off today on his show, and he even criticized Biden. We strongly suggest you watch, Accosta references Trump’s thoughts on Hitler, “He did a lot of good things,” and how close Trump looks to have planned a coup:

“‘You should be alarmed,’ the president said. Yet the president did not offer support for removing the legislative blockade in Congress, the filibuster, that’s standing in the way of laws that would safeguard our elections.

The president appears to be holding out hope he can work with Republican leaders, Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy. Maybe that could happen on infrastructure, but a new bridge is not going to protect the Capitol. It’s more like the GOP has a bridge to sell you.”

The new laws would be “trumped” by a federal law setting regulations as to what a state can do and cannot do with respect to voting rights. Some states were so close (Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin) that new state regulations would all but guarantee a GOP victory.

But Accosta went further:

“Given Trump’s love for lies like that, delivering a speech about saving democracy without passing tough laws to protect elections is not going to be enough. To paraphrase the movie ‘The Untouchables,’ it’s like bringing a knife to an insurrection.”

And then the absolute hammer with which we agree entirely:

What is law enforcement prepared to do about Trump’s actions surrounding January 6th? What are Democrats prepared to do to protect our elections? What are you, the voter, prepared to do to hold accountable those politicians who choose Trump over American democracy? What are you prepared to do?”
