Donald Trump used the 20th anniversary of 9/11 to take his narcissism out for its latest and most offensive walk on Saturday. Trump spit out a 1:44 second message, in which he spent 24 seconds talking about 9/11. The rest of the message was about the “horrible” way that the war ended. One listens and wants to recoil and run, the partisan toxicity is the opposite of what we experienced on 9/11 and what we’ve come to expect when the anniversary is addressed.

The message about the actual 9/11 incident was worse than canned, “many things were on display that day, including the bravery of our fireman and policemen… the job they did was truly unbelievable, we love them and thank them.” But we suppose it couldn’t be that deep or symbolic because he only had 24 seconds, he had to wrap that up.

Starting 26 seconds into the message Trump went straight into Afghanistan and how the pull-out should have been a day of “victory” and “strength.” If this were any other president, people would point to the fact that we pulled out of Afghanistan just six months after Biden took office and note that somehow, Trump managed to not win the Afghan war with victory and strength in his four years, nor did he pull out of Afghanistan with victory and strength. He was too weak and stupid to get it done. He tried to invite the Taliban to Camp David near the anniversary of 9/11.

Trump’s words about Biden:

It is also a sad time for the way our war on those that did so much harm to our country ended last week. The loss of 13 great warriors and the many more who were wounded should never have happened. Overall, two hundred and fifty people were k*lled in Afghanistan last week and so many more were seriously injured. We had eighty five billion dollars of the finest and most sophisticated military equipment taken from us without even a shot being fired. The leader of our country was made to look like a fool, and that can never be allowed to happen. It was caused by bad planning, incredible weakness, and leaders who truly didn’t understand what was happening.”

Again, makes you want to recoil. He “uses,” quite literally, the loss of thirteen servicemen, for his own benefit, something to which he can point and cry out that it should never have happened, as if a president can control ISIS, which is the group he surrendered to in Syria after his phone call with Turkish president Recep Erdoğan. It is difficult to come up with a weaker means by which to pull out. He also left equipment, which Trump seems to think is just as important as the loss of lives. Listen:

And there it is, released at approximately 7:00 a.m., “today is a very sad day in our country,” he writes like Frost… Today is a sad day, but it could have been a day of hope. We could’ve been renewed, brought together, be apolitical. The presidents got together (George W. Bush went to Shanksville, entirely appropriate and good), but Trump kept to himself, as always. He wants to exude strength, but doesn’t know that strength comes from unity. He divided the country on the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 of all days. Tonight, he is doing color commentary for a four hour boxing match with Junior.

He continues to be this country’s greatest threat. We lose a 9/11 number of people every two days now due to COVID. If he said that no one could be a true Trump supporter without the vaccine, we’d have stamped it out by now. “Strength.”
