Rep. Madison Cawthorn Announces Divorce From His Wife of Just Eight Months

Can Madison Cawthorn do anything right? He cannot keep a bride for a year?

We get it. Not all marriages can be saved, that’s 100% understood. Generally speaking, though, an 8-month marriage, the ending of which Madison announced today, means one of two things, someone or both either jumped in WAY too fast, or something very bad happened just after marriage. WAY bad. With Madison, it sure sounds like the latter. Let’s see if we can pick up a hint on what might be going on: From The Daily Beast:

“When my wife Cristina and I were engaged, I was not a member of Congress… Our victory was unprecedented, but overnight our lives changed,” the congressman said in a Wednesday statement. “That change has been both hectic and difficult, it’s neither the pace nor the lifestyle we had planned for.” Despite agreeing to “fight” for their marriage, Cawthorn continued, the pair “realized that… we had irreconcilable differences between us.”

Cristina Cawthorn said she and her husband had had “an incredible journey together” but bemoaned a “strenuous” shift into the public eye. “I just don’t want to be married to someone changing the world,” she said.

Cristina, honey, it’s okay. Actually, you’re a bit off (though we understand). We actually all do want to be married to someone changing the world, but it matters as to how they are changing it, is that not correct? After all, it was your soon-to-be ex-husband who referred to women as “human vessels” for babies. He has been, in a word, insane and become an embarrassment to all but a 5% fringe. Correct?

It is okay for everyone to want to marry a person busy changing the world. But we’re all in solidarity with you that the change better be for the better. At least, if we’re reading it right…

It is either that, or the well-known sexual assailant was trying to hit every intern in the office, perhaps both.

But, Cristina, this is a good day for you. You are young and have the rest of your life in front of you with lots of dreams to fulfill. We aren’t sure that Madison can say the same about his trajectory.
