20-Year-Old Capitol Rioter Sent to Prison Sobbing After Lawyer Argues His Brain Wasn’t Fully Developed

As sentences are starting to roll out for those who participated in the Capitol riots, one lawyer tried arguing that her 20-year old client’s brain was not fully developed when he entered the building on January 6, but he was still given a 14 day jail sentence along with a fine, probation, and community service.

Her client’s name is Leonard Pearson “Pearce” Ridge IV, and he was only 19 years old at the time he participated in the insurrection. While inside, he is reported to have busted down the door of Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Along with many others there that day, he was not careful enough to consider the consequences of sharing his participation on his social media, and posted a Snapchat video of himself inside the building.

Other reports also say that he boasted to his friends after the riots that he has “made history”. Now, though, his sentiment has changed, and he says that he regrets being there. He told his judge, US District Judge John E. Boasberg, that, “If I could do it over again, I would have never entered that building or done any of the things I did that day.”

Ridge was represented in court by Carina Laguzzi, who asked the judge to show compassion due to her client’s young age. She laid the blame for Ridge’s attendance on mob mentality, political radicalization on social media, Donald Trump, and even the Coronavirus pandemic. According to Laguzzi, “[Ridge] really did not understand that walking into the Capitol building would be such an egregious act.”
