2022 Midterms

Graham is Being a Big Ol’ Drama Queen Again, Says ‘These are the Most Dangerous Times Since the Late ’30s’

Some days you just have to ask yourself “What the hell is wrong with Lindsay Graham?” Like Sunday, for instance, when he predicted that in 2022 American’s won’t vote “based on what happened on Jan. 6 but based on this failed Democratic radical agenda,” because, he claims, this “agenda” has placed the U.S. in “the most dangerous times since the late ’30s,” The Hill reports.

What radical agenda?

The plan to rebuild America’s dilapidated infrastructure? To enable more people to join the labor force and stay employed? To create more jobs and meet the necessary goals to avert climate disaster?

That radical agenda, otherwise known as The Build Back Better Framework?

I write about history, and I can tell you the ’30s were more like the GOP agenda today, which seems to be all about fascism, racism, the worst elements of hypocritical Christianity, and supporting a man who wants to be a dictator.

Kind of like, you know, the ’30s actually were.

But in an interview with John Catsimatidis on WABC 770 AM, Graham predicted that former president Donald Trump will win his next election bid and that in November’s midterm elections will make huge gains because “liberal policies do not represent America.”

“We are not a socialist country,” he said, while criticizing talks of “packing” the U.S. Supreme Court or abolishing the Electoral College. “What Democrats are trying to do is tear up the Constitution. They are trying to change the balance of power in this country. …This is the most radical approach to our constitutional checks and balances in my lifetime and maybe ever. There’s going to be a backlash in 2022.”

The Senator (R-S.C.) voiced doubts that the insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, the day violent Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in a failed attempt to prevent Congress from certifying the 2020 election results, would influence Americans to vote Democratic in the next election.

Oh sure Graham called Jan. 6 a “dark day” for the U.S. and he has been calling for those who took part to be prosecuted, saying at one point “people need to be punished. And they will be.

But he says doesn’t blame Trump for the mob’s actions.

President Joe Biden slammed Trump on Thursday, accusing him of indirectly instigating the failed siege. In a speech he gave on the anniversary of the event, Biden said “For the first time in our nation’s history, a president had not just lost an election, he tried to prevent the peaceful transfer of power as a violent mob breached the Capitol.”

Well, for Graham, them’s fightin’ words. He slammed Biden’s speech as “awful” and said Biden was politicizing the event.

“It was an effort on his part to create a brazen political moment, to try to deflect from their failed presidency,” (where has Graham been the last four years?) he told Catsimatidis. “I was really disappointed in the tone of the president and the vice president — of the politicized Jan. 6. The American people reject what happened on Jan. 6, but come November 2022, they are Democratic Party.”

Graham may not be the smartest tool in the shed, but he does have a point. Of sorts. Just not one he would likely agree with. The Democrats need to get cracking. It would be great if they could get rid of the deadwood like Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema but neither is up for election until 2024.

And The Los Angeles Times notes this isn’t going to be an easy time for the Democrats, especially as COVID continues to hold on and voters are worried about inflation and crime. But Graham makes no reference to any of this. Even before his interview with Catsimatidis, Graham took to Twitter to voice his dissatisfaction with Biden’s speech.

Fortunately, the Twitterati responded, with at least one person reminding him of what he said on Jan. 7, 2021:
