Canadian Government Trolls Russians on Twitter and the Russian Govt Quickly Lashes Out

Maybe the Russians are a little touchy about this because it involves Canadians being somewhat snarky and having an edge to their comments. After all, the Canadians are famous for their politeness and good nature toward everyone. If your country has earned their ire, to the point that they are choosing to mock you, rather than take you seriously, that’s indicative of a problem.

The official Canadian U.N. delegation’s Twitter account has both the Canadian flag and the Ukrainian flag, they are not pretending to be neutral in any way about this. Earlier today, they took an official letter sent out to every nation by the Russian delegation and “redlined” it with suggested edits,  then tweeted out the edits: (We will have some of the edits – tough to see, below)

The edits include, first things first, calling the action an “illegal war of aggression.” After many more factual corrections, they asked the Russians, “Do you think the UN membership actually believes you?” Clearly mocking Russia’s assertions, too stupid to even address.

Well, the Russians’ feelings were hurt. Rather than do what is always called for in these situations, entirely ignore the act, they complained. The Daily Beast noted:

“In response to the tweet, several Russian diplomats lashed out at the Canadians, accusing them of engaging in ‘kindergarten-level’ diplomacy and ‘Russophobic libel.‘”

Canada could respond by saying that anyone who isn’t “Russophobic” right now has a problem and doesn’t have any humanity. With respect to “kindergarten level diplomacy,” how does one do diplomacy with people putting bombs through apartments and hospitals?
