GOP Rep. Pledges Fealty to Trump by Introducing Bill to ‘Expunge’ Trump’s Jan. 6 Impeachment

One stalwart Trump-supporting member of Congress is expected to introduce legislation Wednesday that will in all likelihood turn out to be a massive waste of time and little else. But this is nothing new for GOPers brown-nosing former president Donald Trump.

The Daily Beast reports that Rep. Markwayne Mullin (doesn’t he sound like a GOPer?) is planning to introduce legislation in the House to expunge Trump’s second impeachment vote which stemmed from the failed insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, at the U.S.Capitol. That’s according to an email from his office to fellow Republican lawmakers that was sent Tuesday morning.

Mullin is definitely fishing for support.

“The Democrats’ weaponization of impeachment against President Trump cannot go unanswered in the history books,” Mullins office declared, obviously trolling for additional cosponsors for the legislation.

Markwayne Mullin Says He Thinks Rioters Can’t Be Real Trump Supporters

But The Daily Beast’s Sam Brodey writes:

“Such a resolution faces no chance of passing the Democratic-led House or even receiving a vote.”

Isn’t it lovely to know that with all the chaos in the world, some things still work beautifully? Mullin, who was photographed trying to fend off the surly mob from the House floor on Jan. 6 and he’s running for the U.S. Senate seat (Oklahoma) soon to be vacated by the equally ridiculous James “Snowball” Inhofe.

Oklahoma is a deeply red state and Mullin faces a welter of GOP challengers for the June 28 Republican primary and it’s likely this will be what determines the state’s next senator. Some of the hopefuls Mullin will have to contend with include Luke Holland, Inhofe’s former chief of staff. Holland is one of a number of Republicans tied to Trump and the far right.

However this situation plays out, Mullin’s office is claiming the resolution is “full of MAGA red meat that would play well to primary voters.”

It denounces the “rabid partnership the Democrats displayed in exercising one of the most grave and consequential powers with which the House is charged.”

Then the email, probably in an attempt to provide succor to the folks who believe the completely baseless election fraud nonsense, claims to address “the legitimate concerns held by protesters.”

The Daily Beast obtained the text of the email, and Brodey notes it “is full of grievances regarding the allegedly haphazard process of the impeachment that Trump faced for inciting the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Ten Republicans joined all Democrats in voting in favor of impeachment.”

Markwayne (such an Oklahoma name) thinks Trump’s impeachment should be expunged, despite the fact that Trump’s actions caused harm to several law enforcement officers.

The email conveniently forgets that President Joe Biden received considerably more votes than Trump, but it did, however, brag that Trump received more votes than any incumbent president over the past 100 years. Funny how Republicans like Mullin seem to “forget” things.

This ridiculous measure will also likely soon be forgotten. Perhaps voters will also “forget” Mullin during the primary. Someone who’s willing to waste time and taxpayers’ money on something this dumb is worth forgetting.
