Parents of Little Girl Killed in Uvalde School Shooting Refused to Meet With Gov. Greg Abbott
The parents of one child slain in the shooting last week at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas have told ABC News that they have turned down an invitation to meet with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
Felix and Kimberly Rubio, whose daughter Alexandria “Lexi” Rubio, who was killed in the horrific shooting at Robb Elementary School say they have no intentions of meeting Abbott because, as Kimberly notes “My Lexi doesn’t even like him.”
“It’s not what Lexi would have wanted,” her mother said, adding that the little girl shared her parents views on gun control.
“There’s no reason for just an average citizen to have these types of weapons,” Kimberly said. “What for? What do you need them for? Is it worth my kid? These kids?”
Lexi’s broken-hearted parents are now appealing to lawmakers to ban AR-15 style weapons, even though Felix, who is an off-duty deputy Sheriff believes his own department will go against his wishes for his support of gun restrictions.

“My first thought was, ‘My Lexi doesn’t even like him,’” Ms Rubio told The New York Times. “She was really little, but we talked about this stuff at home.” https://t.co/Qf2mNvpmqs

The parents were on hand with their two children for two awards ceremonies on the day of the shooting, first at 8:00 a.m. and then at 10:30 a.m.
When the shooting broke out, Felix Rubio said he headed for the back of the school while the gunman was still alive and said he saw the man get shot.
A harrowing 77 minutes went by before police entered the classroom and killed the alleged gunman. He fired 315 rounds, mostly in a terrifying spurt within the first four minutes of his arrival, officials say.

At one point, the couple was asked what their response is to Texas officials admitting they made the wrong decision to not breach the classroom sooner, but Kimberly said she mainly blames herself for not taking Lexi home after the ceremony. How sad is that, a mother blaming herself instead of law enforcement’s tragic failure?
“I have enough ‘What ifs’ on my end, so I am not interested in reading about somebody else’s mistakes, because I already have to live with my own,” Kimberly said.
“It wasn’t done on purpose, but it’s still a mistake because I made it, otherwise she’d be home with me,” she said. “I left my baby at that school.”
Lexi loved to play softball and do everyday things like getting ice cream, and hoped one day to become a lawyer, her parents said.
“She wanted to make a difference,” Kimberly said. “And I want that for her now, she still can.”
And of course, her parents are scared of bringing her remaining siblings back to school next year.
“We’re terrified because we didn’t think it would happen here,” Kimberly said.
Who can blame them for not wanting to visit Abbott? He’d probably offer “thoughts and prayers” and not much else. As a governor, he’s shown that human life is of little importance. He’s up for reelection in 2022, and the best way to solve this is to replace him with Beto O’Rourke, who is running against him on the Democratic ticket.
