While the United States deals with politicians purchased by the NRA and pretends there’s not a thing that can be done outside “mental health” issues, Canada has decided that it knows exactly what is wrong and has – effective immediately – banned assault rifles within its borders.

According to the CBC:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced a ban on some 1,500 makes and models of military-grade and “assault-style” weapons in Canada, effective immediately.

Starting today, licensed gun owners will no longer be allowed to sell, transport, import or use these sorts of weapons in this country.

“As of today, the market for assault weapons in Canada is closed,” Public Safety Minister Bill Blair said. “Enough is enough. Banning these firearms will save Canadian lives.”

And that’s that.

So, within the course of one week, Canada has determined that self-defense is not predicated upon having a military weapon of war at the ready for every 18 year old who walks into the store with a new credit card and buys a weapon that can mow down as many people as the kid can pull the trigger. No, in Canada, everyone – young and old, will have to get by on some other kind of gun, perhaps the type used for hunting or for sport.

Canada needed less than a week to erase these weapons from the books and make it a crime to have one even in the home. What the hell is wrong with this country? The one that sacrifices babies at the altar of the 2nd Amendment, which – for whatever its original justification, was not a suicide pact.
