‘That’s Direct Evidence of Trump’s Criminal Intent’: Many Convinced Trump Can Already Be Proven Guilty After First Hearing
WOW, what a night.
We have been waiting for this night for a long time…the first hearing showing evidence that Donald Trump was responsible for what happened on January 6th, 2021, and boy, it did not disappoint.
The select committee offered an overview of its findings that Trump was at the heart of a multi-stage attempted coup to retain power, and showcased bits of testimony from former Attorney General Bill Barr, Capitol rioters, a Capitol police officer, a documentary filmmaker, Proud Boys, and even Trump’s daughter, Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Chairman Thompson didn’t mince his words in his opening speech on Thursday evening, saying, “Donald Trump was at the center of this conspiracy, and ultimately, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, spurred a mob of domestic enemies of the Constitution to march down the Capitol and subvert American democracy.”

We saw a short clip of video testimony from Ivanka, part of the eight hours she spent before the committee. Ivanka was asked about Barr’s assertion that there was no fraud to be found to overturn the presidential election.
“It affected my perspective,” Ivanka Trump said. “I respect Attorney General Barr. So I accepted what he was saying.”

The hearing was truly brutal.
There was so much evidence that showed Trump was behind it all:
A video played by the January 6 committee shows how the tweet Trump posted after the Capitol had been breached criticizing Pence for not helping him overturn the election prompted "hang Mike Pence!" chants pic.twitter.com/SnYd1AU5lz

I want ONE Trump supporter to excuse or explain this. Just ONE.
the juxtaposition of Trump fans stomping cops on January 6 and then Trump calling them "peaceful people" in a subsequent interview is quite striking pic.twitter.com/2X9mAICvqh

This is particularly chilling, “Trump asked us to come”:
"And Trump asked us to come"
"He personally asked us to come to DC that day"
"He said he was gonna go and go with us"
"He called me there"
"He asked for us to come to DC, 'big things are going to happen'" pic.twitter.com/ZP3k9j9JnB

But, what was reassuring, was all the people, including attorneys, who felt just what was shown on Thursday night was enough to prove he was guilty.
For example, George Conway:
Trump campaign aide Jason Miller: Trump was told "in pretty blunt terms that he was going to lose."

MSNBC’s Katie Phang:
An observation: @RepLizCheney clearly took aim at Donald Trump tonight. She made it clear that Trump has his fingerprints all over this insurrection.
The most damning evidence so far: AG Barr saying, under oath, that he told Trump that he lost. That there was no fraud.

And Twitter overall was absolutely shocked at what they saw:
The committee has connected trump to the Flynn/Powell legal group to the tweet on December 19th to the Proud Boys and the attack on the Capitol. They have it. THEY HAVE IT. #January6thHearings

The only thing I can think about right now is how utterly insane – and terrifying! – it is that one of America’s two major parties is justifying all this, remains united behind the man responsible, and, worst of all, actually wants to put him back in power. #January6thHearings

“The conspiracy to thwart the will of the purple is not over” — in other words, the plotters of the coup against America are at large and want to be in charge. #January6thHearings

This is gutting. What kind of a monster watches this and pretends it was just a protest? We see your lies. We see the violence. #January6thHearings

Interesting new fact — 250-300 Proud Boys skipped the Ellipse rally and went straight to the Capitol even before Trump urged the crowd to march there.

If this investigation uncovered nothing more than Trump saying “Mike Pence deserves it” it would be one of the most stunning investigations in history. But they have much, much more.

It’s hard to know when to stop. Everything we learned was just so shocking. Trump actually said he thought his vice president deserved to be hung. Shouldn’t that alone be enough to keep him from ever running for public office again? And this was just the first public hearing. The committee plans to hold several hearings in June and July. The next two are scheduled for Monday and Wednesday, with both slated to start at 10 a.m. ET.
