2024 Election
Trump Admin Officials are Already Setting Up a Shadow Government for When They Take Over in 2024
Bloomberg News has just published a worrisome report that members of former President Donald Trump’s cabinet, along with officials that have connections with him are busily creating what is being described as a “shadow government” that will be ready to take action if he runs for president in 2024 — and wins.
He has been coyly suggesting he may take a stab at a third run for the presidency and some of his more influential cabinet members including former White House advisor Kellyanne Conway and former Homeland Security head Chad Wolf have already signed on with America First Policy Institute, according to Raw Story. The nonprofit is run by Linda McMahon, a former member of Trump’s cabinet and World Wrestling Entertainment executive.
The institute has gathered the group in the hopes of avoiding the chaos of 2016 when Trump unexpectedly won the presidential election, Bloomberg reports. And should he decide not to run in 2024 (unlikely, I’m afraid) the group wants to ensure the GOP’s nominee makes use of its informational largesse.
Bloomberg’s Mario Parker and Jennifer Jacobs write, “The organization, based a short walk from the White House, is also developing policy proposals for an expected Republican-controlled House in November. The administration-in-waiting includes potential cabinet members, senior White House officials, and even political appointees at federal levels.”

This is a stealth move intent on avoiding the mishaps of 2016.
“While America First’s work organizing a shadow government appears premature, as Republicans won’t even start voting in presidential primaries for another year and a half, it’s intended to help Trump or another GOP candidate avoid the missteps of his first presidential transition, when the candidate and his team were caught off-guard by his victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016,” per Parker and Jacobs. “Last month, the organization announced that it had hired Michael Rigas, Trump’s former acting director of the Office of Personnel Management, a role akin to leading human resources for the federal government. His portfolio at America First includes putting together a blueprint the next Republican president can use to determine day-one executive actions and staffing at agencies.”
Well, if the organization accomplishes this, perhaps Trump will be less inept if he wins again, I don’t know. One thing is clear, however, America First has compiled a sh*tload of Trump-supporting brown-nosers, former administration officials, and a host of others connected in some way to the former president.
Parker and Jacobs note that “nine former Trump cabinet officials, 17 former senior White House staffers, 35 former senior-level administration officials, and three former governors, including Bobby Jindal of Louisiana,” are already lined up, and other members include Conway and Wolf. Also onboard: “Larry Kudlow, former director of the National Economic Council; former Interior Secretary David Bernhardt; former acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker; former director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe; and Marc Lotter, a special assistant to Trump.”
So now we need to ask ourselves: “What are the Democrats doing to ready themselves for 2024?” Because from where I sit, it doesn’t look like they are doing much. If there was ever a time to put pressure on them, I suggest now is that time. Call your Democratic representatives. Write letters. Line up new voters when possible. Whatever you can think of to do, please do it. We must find a way to let Democrats know their complacency is not okay. Because that seems to be what they are doing.
Unless we are looking forward to another Trump presidency it’s what we must do.
