Trump-Backed MAGA Candidate Kari Lake Shared Anti-Trump ‘Not My President’ Meme in 2017

Considering the feud between Arizona’s Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake and Meghan McCain, you’d never suspect the two would have anything in common. But apparently, they do. Or at least did. Lake, who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, and McCain shared a definite dislike for Trump. And polls show Lake well ahead of Karrin Robson at 45 percent and 34 percent respectively.

But a recent finding by Fox News (surprisingly) means there are likely some pretty big potholes ahead for Lake. The right-wing cable news network recently unearthed an anti-Trump post written by Lake herself on her Facebook wall right before Trump’s 2017 presidential inauguration. Wherein she used the hashtag #NotMyPresident.

And almost as soon as Fox News found the post, Lake deleted it.

Fortunately, however, Uproxx and The Hill saved it for posterity.

“The anti-Trump post from Kari Lake’s account read, ‘Will you be protesting the inauguration? If so, which of these suggestions will you adopt? Will you boycott TV coverage? Wear black? Donate money to the ACLU, NAACP or Planned Parenthood? Use the hashtag #NotMyPresident? Will you unfollow Donald Trump?”

Kari Lake, who has Trump’s endorsement in the Arizona GOP gubernatorial primary, posted an apparently anti-Trump image on Facebook during the 2017 inauguration. (The Kari Lake/Facebook screenshot)

McCain has been a frequent target for Lake, who seems to object to her living on the same planet and there’s been quite the war of words between the two. You’d think McCain would be pleased with this recent development, and maybe she is, but it’s hard to tell because she simply tweeted this:

One thing the Arizona primary race makes plain is the widening chasm currently opening up within the GOP. While Trump has endorsed Lake (that may change), his former Vice President Mike Pence, as well as current Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, are backing Robson. This makes it entirely clear the Republican Party hopes to view Trump in its collective rearview mirror. Uproxx reports Trump is losing support to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is in good standing to become the party’s preferred presidential candidate in 2024.

If the GOP is finally breaking away from Trump I’m all for it but DeSantis is merely Trump 2.0.

I think I’m going to cry.
