Trump Whines Special Master is ‘Exceeding His Authority’ by Asking for Evidence to Back Up His Claims

I’m starting to wonder if Donald Trump and his attorneys regret begging for a special master because if they thought they were going to find favor with Raymond Dearie, who was appointed for them by Trump-appointed judge Aileen Cannon, it seems they were sorely mistaken.

Trump’s attorneys, in a late-night filing, successfully beat back Dearie’s demand that the former president goes on record to state that the Department of Justice’s inventory of government documents that were seized from the Mar-a-Lago search by FBI agents is accurate, according to Raw Story.

And now Trump’s attorneys, according to a report by CNN, are trying another angle, claiming that Dearie is going too far and exceeding his authority.

CNN reports that “Trump’s team argued the court order appointing Dearie made mention only of a declaration from a government official verifying the Justice Department’s search inventory, and that there was no such reference to a declaration from the Trump side,” adding “The former president’s team also claimed that Dearie is exceeding his authority by asking that the documents from the search be logged in categories more specific than what U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who granted Trump’s request for review, contemplated in her appointment order.”

Per CNN, Trump’s attorneys are also requesting additional time to review the documents that were found in Trump’s possession — an estimated 11,000.

Trump’s legal team has fired off a letter to Dearie, writing “In conversations between Plaintiff’s counsel and the Government regarding a data vendor, the Government mentioned that 11,000 documents contain closer to 200,000 pages. That estimated volume, with a need to operate under the accelerated time frames supported by the Government, is the reason why so many of the Government’s selected vendors have declined the potential engagement.”

So it’s no wonder the Trump team is chafing here. Dearie is raring to go and push all of this out into the open and Trump & Co. are in no hurry. This is keeping them on their toes and they don’t like it. If Trump thought the special master would baby him, he’s sorely mistaken.
