Bob Woodward Reveals Just How Scary of a Narcissist Trump Truly is With Terrifying Example

If you’ve ever wondered how much of a narcissist Donald Trump really is, veteran journalist Bob Woodward can give you a reasonably definitive answer. He’s the author of three books about Trump and has recently released an audiobook of his recorded conversations with the ex-president.

In a CNN interview on Tuesday, Woodward says Trump’s narcissism was ever-present throughout his presidency when he recorded those conversations, The Independent reports.

“My assistant, Claire McMullen, has listened to these tapes many, many times,” Woodward says. “And she found one time Trump referred to the American people, 100 times he referred to himself, what he knows.”

Woodward has covered 10 American presidents during his legendary career with The Washington Post, including most famously, President Richard Nixon whose role in the Watergate scandal led to his resignation.

During the interview, Woodward told CNN hosts Brianna Keilar and John Berman that Trump relied on his own personal instincts more than any other president and was extremely dismissive of expert opinions that contradicted his own ideas. As an example, Woodward cited Trump’s apparent admiration for North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

“On Kim Jong-un, the CIA says he is stupid, Trump says ‘Oh no, he’s smart,’ and then Trump says … ‘Only I know,'” Woodward explains.

Because we were stuck with Trump for four years it’s not really news that this man is a narcissist. Woodward’s interviews with the former president underscore just how awful Trump really is.

“I’ve never heard… any of the ten presidents I’ve reported on ever approaching the point. Now, maybe they thought sometimes only they knew. But to say that… that is the message, that this is all about him.”

Woodward explains:

“On the strategy of dealing with North Korea, I asked if he was trying to drive, get Kim Jong-un the North Korean leader, the thug of all times who starves his own people, are you trying to get him to the bargaining table? And Trump says, ‘Oh no, its instinct, it’s all about instinct.”

By this point, Woodward appears incredulous.

“This is a historic moment, challenge, and historic danger dealing with North Korea this way, and it’s all being done on instinct?,” he recalls.

Trump’s presidency led Woodward to write the books Fear, Rage, and Peril, which focused on the different phases of the Trump administration. Of course, in writing these books, the famed journalist spent hours interviewing Trump and recording their conversations, which have now been released as the audiobook The Trump Tapes.

The tapes also reveal that Trump showed Woodward letters he and Kim Jong-un sent to each other, and asked him not to tell anyone he’d shown him the letters.

Now, as a result of these conversations, Woodward has written a searing opinion piece for the Post, explaining his reasons for releasing the tapes, explaining “I was struck by how Trump pounded in my ears in a way the printed page cannot capture.”

He brought up one of the previous books he’s written on Trump, one that led him to conclude with “when his performance as president is taken in its entirety, I can only reach one conclusion: Trump is the wrong man for the job.”

Woodward doesn’t mince any words in the op-ed which was published Sunday,

“Two years later, I realize I didn’t go far enough,” he writes. “Trump is an unparalleled danger. When you listen to him on the range of issues from foreign policy to the virus to racial injustice, it’s clear he did not know what to do. Trump was overwhelmed by the job. He was largely disconnected from the needs and leadership expectations of the public and his absolute self-focus became the presidency.”

“The Trump Tapes leaves no doubt that after four years in the presidency, Trump has learned where the levers of power are, and full control means installing absolute loyalists in key Cabinet and White House posts,” Woodward writes. “The record now shows that Trump has led — and continues to lead — a seditious conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election, which in effect is an attempt to destroy democracy.”

And here we are, with the 2022 midterm elections around the corner, replete with Trump-wannabe Republicans waiting for their chance to create further damage. Those of us who aren’t Trump supporters knew he was the wrong man for the job before he set foot in the White House. We were forced to deal with him for four years. And we’re still dealing with it because the man simply can’t shut up. He reminds us about this every time he opens his mouth.

All I can say is I hope the Democrats are on their game because I’m not feeling confident right now.
