Treasury Confirms DeSantis Under Investigation for Misuse of COVID Funds to Pull His Migrant/Martha’s Vineyard Stunt

DeSantis has proven his MAGA means of governing over and over again, but never more so than his blatant misuse of COVID funds set aside for immigration issues in Florida to pick up asylum seekers – in the country legally – and enticed to board a plane in Texas. DeSantis chartered the plane, which briefly stopped in Florida (perhaps to refuel as a nod to the law, placing them briefly in Florida) and then carry the asylum seekers to Martha’s Vineyard under false pretenses.

DeSantis said that he had the ability to use Florida immigration funds in Texas because a significant number of immigrants/asylum seekers end up in Florida, even though these asylum seekers were enticed by a promise to go to Boston. The lie is the definition of kidnapping and probably misappropriation of funds. DeSantis imitated Trump and refused to care about breaking the law.

Now the Treasury Department is about to investigate the matter for misappropriation of funds, an investigation that could have criminal or civil consequences. DeSantis has already been named in a lawsuit filed by the asylum seekers.

*This is critical. These people lawfully presented themselves at the border as Venezuelans seeking asylum from a tyrannical government. Under international law, the country they seek to enter is obligated to at least provide them a hearing to establish if they qualify for humane relief, which allows the asylum seekers to stay in the United States until the threat is gone in their home country. These people were legally awaiting their hearing. It didn’t matter. DeSantis picked them up and dumped them in Martha’s Vineyard for the cameras. Disgusting.

Regardless, the investigation is coming:

The MAGAs have a good record of breaking the law without consequences. We’ll see how they do with this one.
