2022 Midterms

Conservative WSJ Dumps on Trump in Brutal Op-Ed: He Only Cares About ‘What’s Good for Trump’

The Wall Street Journal has wasted little time in excoriating former president Donald Trump for attacking other Republicans as the midterm elections loom, Mediaite reports.

In a Sunday editorial titled “Donald Trump Rallies for … Donald Trump,” the Journal whaled away on the former president’s recent campaign rallies after he attacked Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and his former Vice President, Mike Pence, saying the attacks are further evidence that this is a man who lacks principles of any sort.

The newspaper’s editorial board writes that most party leaders would be out campaigning for their fellow Republican candidates, or supporting the party’s platform or “general worldview,” but not Trump. They note he’s only out for himself and doesn’t care about anyone else — including members of his own party.

“Donald Trump’s allies are saying the former President who lost in 2020 is going to announce as early next week that he’s running for the White House again in 2024. In case you doubt it, Mr. Trump is already mocking his fellow Republicans and potential competitors before Tuesday’s midterm election,” the editors wrote.

The editorial board also noted Trump’s Saturday rally in Pennsylvania “turned out to be less for Mr. Oz than for … himself. During the rally, Mr. Trump showed the results of a recent poll for the GOP presidential nomination in 2024.”

The board details Trump’s attacks on his political adversary, even coming up with the clever (for Trump, anyway) nickname of “Ron DeSanctimonious.”

“Mr. Trump wants to clear the GOP presidential field, and he knows that Mr. DeSantis has emerged in the last two years as his strongest potential opponent,” the editors explain.

But it also wasn’t lost on the editors that Trump’s possible decision to declare soon after the election is likely an “attempt to deter a possible Justice Department indictment.”

And the editors wrap things up with a well-aimed barb about Trump’s character (or lack thereof) to remind readers about just who Trump really is.

“But his focus on his own prospects, and criticizing his fellow Republicans even before a crucial midterm election, is one more reminder that Mr. Trump’s only abiding principle is what’s good for Donald Trump.”

Media Bias/Fact Check, a site that I refer to often, rates The Wall Street Journal as having a right/center bias, so the fact that the editorial board has written an op-ed like this speaks volumes.

I hope voters pay attention.
