2022 Midterms

Trump Is Working With the GOP to Make Sure They Impeach Biden at Least Twice So Trump’s Not the Only ‘Twice-Impeached President’

There seems to be no end to Donald Trump’s anger over losing the 2020 presidential election. Now he’s calling his Republican cronies in Congress to find out their plans for impeaching President Joe Biden and key administration officials, sources familiar with the situation have told Rolling Stone.

Evidently, over the past several months, the former president has repeatedly asked “how many” times Republicans intend to impeach President Biden if they regain control of the House. The sources also say he’s been asking Republicans what they would do to impeach certain key Biden administration officials. In his questions, he has even mentioned possible timelines for potential impeachment inquiries and has questioned in general how much Republican support he has in this endeavor.

Rollingstone surmises Trump’s questioning of “how many” times the Republicans plan to impeach Biden may be connected to his own dubious record. But there’s no need to wonder about this. He’s been impeached twice — the only U.S. President to earn this shameful distinction — for attempting to pressure Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky to force the country’s officials to investigate Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, and for instigating the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

Trump’s ongoing contact with Republican allies on Capitol Hill demonstrates his ongoing influence over the GOP caucus and the power he may wield should Republicans gain enough House seats in Tuesday’s election. However, his repeated attempts to press for Biden’s impeachment may cause tension between himself and GOP congressional leadership as key Republican leaders have reservations about the wisdom of attempting to put Biden on trial, per Rolling Stone.

Kevin McCarthy, who will become House Speaker if the flying monkeys, er, I mean Republicans, regain the House is not keen on pursuing Biden’s impeachment, has privately said doing so would be in the best interests of the GOP. He hasn’t ruled impeachment out, but he downplayed it in an interview with Punchbowl News.

And former Congressman Jack Kingston (R-Ga.), who has served as an adviser and a surrogate to Trump, had this to say:

“When we took the majority, the Clinton impeachment sapped out a lot of momentum that could have gone towards crafting policy. I don’t think working to impeach a president who is going to be a lame duck this time next week would be a good expenditure of [Republicans’] time.”

Trump is infamously narrow-minded but even he has asked lawmakers if there may be potential political pitfalls to impeaching Biden.

“The [former] president definitely said Biden deserves it, but he also asked if it would even ‘work’ and if impeachment would be good for [Biden’s] polls,” one sources notes, remembering a conversation that’s occurred in the past three months.

But extremist GOP lawmakers like Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.)  and Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) have upped the crazy on this. Last week she vowed the GOP will impeach Biden and top administration officials.

“This will happen. Not for political reasons. But because it must be done. Any GOP member growing weak on this will sorely disappoint our country.”

As for Gaetz, in a September conversation with Steve Bannon, he said he believed Republicans should make investigations and impeachment a top priority if they regain the House.

“If we don’t engage in impeachment inquiries to get the documents and the testimony and the information we need, then I believe that our voters will feel betrayed and that likely, that could be the biggest win the Democrats could hope for in 2024, when it really matters to investigate them and to hold them accountable,” Gaetz said.

He was asked if Trump had discussed impeachment with him. Rolling Stone reports he responded via a spokesperson that “Rep. Gaetz doesn’t discuss his conversations with President Trump.”

I’m ending this on a disturbing note: Republican voters are definitely on board with impeaching Biden. That’s according to a poll conducted last spring by the University of Massachusetts Amherst, which found that more than two-thirds of Republican voters think the party should use control of the House to impeach President Biden.

I’m hoping Democrats persevere and that Republicans DON’T regain the House but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried. And we have all this worry and potential for real tragedy because of one selfish man who can’t accept the fact that he truly, rightfully lost an election.
