Brittany Giner is coming home. She’s even on a plane. From NBC News:

President Joe Biden signed off on the trade, which took place in the United Arab Emirates, even though it meant leaving behind Paul Whelan, an American corporate security executive who remains jailed in Russia.

“She is safe, she is on a plane, she is on her way home,” Biden said in remarks from the White House on Thursday morning. “She will soon be back in the arms of her loved ones and she should have been there all along.”

“I’m proud that today we have made one more family whole,” Biden said, adding that he will continue to work to free Whelan. “We’ll keep negotiating for Paul’s relief. I guarantee it.”

Griner was probably pretty dumb to attempt to bring the MJ in a vape. She says she forgot, maybe. But Russia is always happy to arrest an American because the American government will move heaven and earth to get an American home, as it should be. There are two other Americans still in a Russian prison on more severe charges.

The U.S. had a big fish to trade and surely tried to trade him for all three. The Kremlin will get the return of Viktor Bout, who Russian President Vladimir Putin has been wanting to get back — and who had served 11 years of a 25-year sentence in the United States. Bout is a bad guy. He is an international arms dealer who was also close to the KGB or GRU.

The U.S. also wanted the release of Paul Whelan, who is accused of spying and has served years of a 25-year sentence, but Russia would not let Whelan go unless the U.S. gave up an imprisoned Russian spy. Part of the problem is that the U.S. doesn’t have a Russian spy to trade, or at least not one they can advertise. It was Griner or nothing. The U.S. will do almost anything to get an American back. Ultimately, this was the only offer on the table. Take it, work on the others even harder.

But Marj wants Biden impeached because he couldn’t force his will on the Kremlin:

Is Marj aware of the fact that Paul Whelan and Marc Fargo were both taken under Donald Trump’s watch? If not getting Whelan home is an impeachable offense, shouldn’t Trump have been impeached? Speaking of which, Trump said today on Truth Social:

What kind of a deal is it to swap Brittney Griner, a basketball player who openly hates our Country, for the man known as “The Merchant of Death,” who is one of the biggest arms dealers anywhere in the World, and responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and horrific injuries. Why wasn’t former Marine Paul Whelan included in this totally one-sided transaction? He would have been let out for the asking. What a “stupid” and unpatriotic embarrassment for the USA!!!

Again, Whelan and Fargo were taken while Trump was president! If they were there for the asking, shouldn’t Trump have asked? Especially since Putin is so afraid of him.

Marj, again (Who may be de-facto speaker of the house soon), doesn’t understand how this “country” thing works. She is politics as entertainment, that’s it. And the Griner family is thankful that the U.S. managed to get at least one citizen home for Christmas.
