Virginia County GOP Says Silly Us, We Didn’t Notice KKK Hoods In Graphic

Only when they get caught, do they dump the obvious image or cliche-motto-hand sign or dinner party, and then they say that it was completely innocent nothing. How could they have known? It wasn’t intentional.

The Virginia GOP has some questions it needs to answer regarding the Patrick County GOP “Elephant” image with the four klan members so obviously appearing between the legs. The backstory from the Roanoke Times:

A familiar Republican Party mascot pictured on the Patrick County GOP website hid Ku Klux Klan imagery in its negative space, before it was removed Friday. In the triangular white spaces between the legs of the Republican Party’s elephant mascot, black dots create the image of eyeholes.

The image, since removed, bore an undeniable resemblance to the cone-shaped hoods worn by members of the infamous white supremacist group. The image has since been replaced with an image seal of the Commonwealth of Virginia, according to Patrick County GOP Chairperson Lynne Bogle.

“We had obviously not realized that this image could be interpreted that way,” Bogle said. “Now that it’s been pointed out to us, we have removed the image entirely and changed our website password.”

Yeah, because it’s perfectly normal to have black holes between the legs.

“We didn’t see it… those black dots between the legs were just… black dots; who doesn’t put black dots in seemingly random spots all over the place?

But to end with the seriousness this deserves, there are mainstream Republicans now who want this type of thing out there, and that’s damned scary. The other thing is that not only do they want it normalized, but it is also increasingly extreme. “Owning the libs” takes ever-increasing anger of the type above. We don’t see it turning around anytime soon.
