OH BOY: Matt Schlapp Allegedly Groped the Crotch of a Male Staffer for Herschel Walker’s Campaign

WOW. If this is true, and it seems the reporting is extremely thorough and well-done, it is a huge blow to the conservative movement (family values!), and more proof of their rampant hypocrisy, especially when it comes to LGBTQ issues.

According to The Daily Beast, Matt Schlapp, Mr. Conservative himself, sexually fondled a staffer for Herschel Walker’s senate campaign when he was driving Schlapp back to his Atlanta hotel on Oct. 19.

Schlapp, who is the head of the American Conservative Union and the organizer of the enormously successful CPAC conference, was in Georgia for a Walker campaign event, and the alleged sexual assault took place after Schlapp purchased the staffer drinks at two bars, supposedly to discuss the staffer’s future in politics.

“It was a public space, and I was thinking that he got the hint,” the staffer told The Daily Beast. “But it escalated.” He said that as he drove Schlapp back to the hotel, Schlapp reached over and “fondled” his crotch for a long period of time as the staffer remained basically paralyzed and in shock, calling the incident “scarring” and “humiliating.” The staffer also said he declined Schlapp’s invitation to come up to his hotel room.

Matt Schlapp has been married to Mercedes Schlapp since 2002, and runs the CPAC conservative conference.

The staffer recorded videos after the incident, which he showed to the Daily Beast, along with his wife and a close friend. The staffer said Schlapp “put his hands on me in a sustained and unsolicited and unwanted manner,” and “grabbed my junk and pummeled it at length,” adding that the incident left him feeling “so f*cking dirty.” He said he told the Walker campaign the next morning about what happened, and felt “nothing but support” from campaign officials, which is rather refreshing (and surprising) to hear.

The staffer, who is in his late 30s, told The Daily Beast that he would reveal his name if Schlapp denied the allegations. Schlapp’s attorney Charlie Spies told The Daily Beast in a statement that “the attack is false and Mr. Schlapp denies any improper behavior. We are evaluating legal options for response.”

Schlapp has been married to Mercedes Schlapp, a conservative commentator and former official in both the George W. Bush and Trump White House Administrations, since 2002.

The Walker campaign “confirmed the details of the campaign’s involvement as the staffer described it, noting the campaign initiated a meeting between the staffer and legal counsel”. The staffer said he didn’t disclose the incident earlier because he was worried about the personal and professional repercussions, and he didn’t want to add to the mounting problems that were surrounding Walker’s ultimately unsuccessful Senate bid.
