BOMBSHELL: Melania Knew of Trump’s Affair With Stormy Daniels Before He Paid Her $130K, Rendering the ‘Melania Defense’ Useless in Hush Money Case

Donald Trump’s attorneys are considering bringing his wife, Melania Trump on board as the Stormy Daniels legal drama continues. And, as it turns out, this could be a real problem for the former president.

Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a former friend of Melania’s, said in a Twitter post that the former first lady “knew” about her husband’s alleged affair with Daniels — before he ordered Michael Cohen, then his fixer and personal attorney to pay the adult film actress $130,000 to buy her silence in the days before the 2016 election, The Mercury News reports.

“‘Melania Defense'” in Stormy Daniels Hush-Money case WON’T WORK,” she posted. “Why not? Melania Trump knew…”

Of course, the typical argument Trump’s legal team has been using is that the hush-money payment to Daniels had little to do with trying to alter the outcome of the election, Vice reports. But Manhattan prosecutors, who are allegedly close to indicting Trump (where have we heard that before?) may attempt to use the argument that the payout violated New York State election laws because it was obviously beneficial to his candidacy to keep Daniels mum about their alleged affair.

But Trump’s lawyers claim he had other reasons to buy Daniels’s silence. They argue that the payoff was Trump’s way of trying to avoid personal embarrassment and to keep Melania from finding out that he’d had a tryst with the adult film actress. Daniels has said the alleged hookup happened at a golf tournament in Lake Tahoe in July 2006 about four months after Melania gave birth to their son, Barron.

“It’s not directly related to the campaign,” said Trump attorney Joe Tacopina in an interview Monday on ABC’s Good Morning America, per Vice. “He made this with personal funds to prevent something coming out (that was) false but embarrassing to himself, his family, his young son.”

Trump’s purported fling with Daniels has definitely placed him in a sizeable legal bind. If he is indicted, he’ll be the first president in U.S. history to be indicted for a criminal offense. And according to The Mercury News, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has sent significant signals that he plans to charge the ex-president with possible violations of business and campaign finance law, stemming from the campaign finance law, The New York Times reported recently.

Cohen’s testimony was considered crucial to the District Attorney’s case against Trump. He testified before a grand jury on Monday, per the Times. Cohen and Trump had a particularly nasty falling out after Cohen was prosecuted in 2018 and did time in federal prison as a result of crimes related to the hush money payment. As he pleaded guilty in federal court, Cohen said Trump told him to make the payment to Daniels to keep her from selling her story.

At the crux of the Manhattan case is whether or not Trump’s company falsified business records — a misdemeanor — when it created a phony retainer agreement with Cohen and then claimed Trump’s monthly reimbursement checks were for legal expenses, the Times reports. If prosecutors are to elevate the crime to a felony, they need to prove that Trump also intended to commit or conceal a second crime — by violating New York state election laws, per the Times.

As all of this unfolds, Trump is doing what he always does — ranting on Truth Social, and in one post last year, he complained that “he did absolutely nothing wrong” and called the investigation a “witch hunt,” according to a story from The New York Post. He also repeated his previous claims that he never had a tryst with Daniels. “I never had an affair with Stormy Daniels, nor would I have wanted to have an affair with Stormy Daniels,” he said.

Of course, Winston Wolkoff and the former first lady and other Trump family members have had their own bitter falling out after Winston Wolkoff said she had been set up as a scapegoat to the media stemming from potential crimes relating to fundraising for Donald Trump’s 2017 inauguration. As we have learned from her 2020 book Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship With The First Lady, thanks to a series of audio recordings of her conversations with Melania Trump, we now know she was unhappy about decorating the White House for Christmas. She was also overheard saying that children of immigrants were excited about their accommodations in federal detention even though they were separated from their parents thanks to her husband’s “zero tolerance” policy.

These revelations were highly embarrassing for Melania. That seems appropriate since she wore that dumb “I really don’t care, do u?” jacket while visiting incarcerated children at a detention camp. In general, I think Melania is more intelligent than her husband but this was a massive public relations blunder.

Serves her right.
