Trump is Pathetically Trying to Replace the National Anthem With His ‘Song’ With the J6 Prison Choir

Donald Trump is probably the only U.S. president who would try to change the national anthem by using something that features his voice and a bunch of other criminals. It’s really hard to imagine anyone else in this position trying to do this. But this being Trump, that’s what he did at his rally last weekend in Waco, Texas. He dragged out his trusty iPod, which undoubtedly contains plenty of show tunes and perhaps a song or two from Adele, who very definitely does not like Trump using her music, and the Village People, who have also denounced Trump for using their song YMCA and instead regaled the crowd with Justice For All, according to Uproxx.

And no, it’s not that Metallica song you’re thinking of. It’s a boiled-over version of the star-spangled banner and a bored-sounding Trump reciting the Star-Spangled Banner and featuring the J6 prison choir — a bunch of men imprisoned for their January 6 attack on the Capitol.

I’ve heard better music from the iglesia (church) across the street where the congregation will eventually discover what key they need to sing in. Even the howler monkeys in the barrio where I used to live did a better job.

The Washington Post was similarly enthused.

“Before Trump began to speak, however, there was one other bit of patriotic business at hand. “Ladies and gentlemen,” an announcer told the MAGA-bedecked assembly, “please rise and place your hand over your heart for” — and here’s where you expecct the disembodied voice to say ‘the Pledge of Allegiance,’ but that is not what he said — “the number one song on iTunes, Amazon, and the Billboard charts: ‘Justice for All,’ featuring President Donald J. Trump and the J6 choir!”

And of course, Trump would find some way to make the national anthem all about him and apparently the men incarcerated for the hell they created on January 6 haven’t learned this lesson. But can you imagine a Democrat trying to do this? Tucker Carlson would probably burst a blood vessel and right-wingers in general would lose their minds. I’m sure House Speaker Kevin McCarthy would have to call for some committee to investigate it and Marjorie Taylor Greene would whimper on Twitter about Democrats bastardizing the national anthem.

Because after all, Republicans can dish it out but they really can’t take it.

But some folks on Twitter, like journalist Aaron Rupar, had a laugh over this embarrassing silliness.

And some folks were definitely offended over Trump’s half-arsed attempt at injecting himself into everything.

And of course, Trump has done things like post images of himself superimposed images of himself on Mount Rushmore to stoke his own vanity in what perhaps is a failed attempt to appear “patriotic,” when the fact is that any of the presidents featured on this monument would almost certainly dislike him. Whatever their faults may have been, each of them was concerned with the serious issues of their day. Trump is only concerned about himself.

Others on Twitter had even more thoughts about Trump and his ridiculous “national anthem.”
