Donald Trump Was Oddly Quiet About the Bud Light Boycott — Now We Know Why

While conservative activists and MAGA influencers have been yelling for a boycott of Bud Light because they are all steamed up over a sponsorship deal with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, one high-profile GOPer actually kept his trap shut for once.

If you guessed former President Donald Trump, give yourself a pat on the back.

The twice-impeached and now-indicted Trump maintained a deafening silence as the controversy boiled over and drew much complaining from rival GOP contenders, most of whom attacked the maker of Bud Light, Anheuser-Busch InBev, according to The Independent.

One of the first to get into this nonsense was potential Trump rival Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is notably anti-trans. DeSantis is Trump’s highest-polling opponent and he asserted a boycott of the beverage was justified because the company’s decision to partner with Ms. Mulvaney, who has lots of fans on TikTok and was invited to the White House last fall was “rubbing our faces in it.”

“So, if you as a consumer are … ‘Like, yeah, they’re doing that, but I’m just going to keep drinking anyways.’ Well, then they’re going to keep doing it,” DeSantis said, then praised the power of the boycott during an appearance on The Benny Show. “So I think we have power as consumers to make our voice heard and not on every company because sometimes conservatives aren’t going to make a dent in some companies. This is one.”

DeSantis went on to complain that Anheuser-Busch’s work was “part of a larger thing where corporate America is trying to change our country, trying to change policy, trying to change culture.”

How typical of Republicans to be worried about a company supporting a transgender person and be all up in their feels about abortion and then offer “thoughts and prayers” during the epidemic of school shootings the U.S. has been dealing with since the one that happened at Columbine High School all those years ago.

And two of Trump’s former colleagues turned rivals are also playing this sad game. Ex-Vice President Mike Pence and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley also supported the boycott of the brewer’s products, with Haley saying the marketing partnership “makes a mockery of women” and Pence complaining about what he perceived as “gender insanity” which “continues to poison our public discourse.”

Of course, Trump has also been known to level attacks at transgender people, and as his 2024 presidential campaign takes on an authoritarian agenda, he’s recently announced in a video that he vows to “stop the chemical, physical, and emotional mutilation” of children through federal action. He’s also promised to unleash federal law enforcement on doctors and other healthcare providers who offer gender-affirming treatment to transgender people.”

And yet, for all that, he’s remained strangely quiet about the Bud Light flap.

So The Independent did a bit of digging and found that it’s quite likely that Trump is keeping quiet (unbelievable, I know) due to his own personal financial interests.

Trump’s most recent financial disclosure reveals that he holds quite a bit of financial interest in Anheuser-Busch InBev, the company that produces Bud Light. The disclosure form is on file with the Federal Election Commission, and it shows that Trump owns between $1 million and $5 million in Anheuser-Busch InBev stock under an account listed as “DJT Trust — Investment Account #2.”

So it’s no wonder why Trump has kept mum on this, and even his eldest son Donald Trump Jr., one of the biggest transphobes around, is calling for an end to the boycott, because of Anheuser-Busch’s “iconic” status.

“So here’s the deal. Anheuser-Busch totally sh*t the bed with this Dylan Mulvaney thing,” he said on his Triggered podcast. “I’m not, though, for destroying an American, an iconic company for something like this.”

I’m sure it has nothing to do with his father investing in the company. That couldn’t be the case, could it?
