Trump Calls Himself the ‘President’ in $500M Lawsuit Against Michael Cohen for Sharing ‘Embarrassing’ Stories About Him

Ok, let’s get something straight. Donald Trump is not the president anymore. AND THANK THE LORD FOR THAT. He is a former president. And in formal situations, he is to be referred to as “Mr. Trump”.

According to the queen of etiquette Emily Post, when talking about a former president to a third party it’s appropriate to say, “former President Trump.” This holds for introductions, as well: A current state governor is introduced as “Governor Gavin Newsom,” while you’d introduce an ex-governor as “former Governor Jerry Brown.”

Again, from Emily Post, “In an informal setting (such as a private lunch), it’s acceptable to use the title the ex-official held. Here, you could refer to former President Donald Trump as either “President Trump” or “Mr. Trump.” In reality, many people ignore this convention and refer to former Presidents as “President Last Name” when they are in settings where nearly everyone would afford them the honor of the title. Technically, this is still incorrect but there are enough former Presidents allowing this that it has become a somewhat common mistake.

So Trump is a former president. Period. His lackeys and hangers-on and yes men can call him president Trump until the cows come home, but that won’t make it so. Unless of course he wins in 2024 and God help us if that happens.

This brings us to the lawsuit that Trump has filed against his former attorney Michael Cohen, who is at the heart of the New York hush money payment case against the one-term former president, for $500 million.

The lawsuit alleges a breach of his attorney-client relationship and unjust enrichment, among other claims. It was filed in US District Court for the Southern District of Florida on Wednesday.

“This is an action arising from Cohen’s multiple breaches of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment, conversion and breaches of contract by virtue of Cohen’s past service as Trump’s employee and attorney,” the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit labels the plaintiff as “President Donald J. Trump” – despite him having left office following losing the presidential election over two years ago. Again, this is not proper, and it’s not ok. Trump is not the president, Joe Biden is. And had Obama filed some lawsuit while Trump was president and referred to himself as “President Barack Obama”, you can bet your sweet little bottom that Trump and his supporters would’ve taken issue with it.

Court documents allege that Cohen broke his attorney-client relationship with Trump by “spreading falsehoods” about him that were “likely to be embarrassing or detrimental, and partook in other misconduct.”

So, Cohen told the truth basically.

It also claims that Cohen, who has been referred to as Trump’s “fixer” over the years due to his role of fixing Trump’s “problems”, breached the terms of a confidentiality agreement that he signed when working for the former president.
