Sarah Huckabee Sanders Pushes ‘Teacher Appreciation Week’ and It Backfires Spectacularly
As the Republican governor of Arkansas, Sarah Huckabee Sanders has made her bigotry towards the LGBTQ+ community abundantly clear. And now she’s doing it again, during Teacher Appreciation Week, telling teachers how much she appreciates them…as long as they don’t step away from her puritanical “anti-woke” agenda she’s been forcing on them since she became governor five months ago, Queerty reports.
“Thank you to every Arkansas teacher for your service to our state’s future!” she wrote in a chirpy tweet late Tuesday, adding a video of herself praising schoolteachers in Arkansas, land of Republicans, even though the state currently ranks 47th in the nation in education (and 49th in healthcare, 43 in infrastructure, and 41st in economy.)
When you consider there are 50 states, this is not a good look.
But Huckabee Sanders is undeterred and she added:
“Thank you to every Arkansas teacher for your service to our state’s future,” she said in the video. “God bless.”

That, however, is where her appreciation stops.
Since taking office in January, Sanders has carried out a hate-filled assault on Arkansas schools and LGBTQ+ students and teachers.
She’s done things like appointing Jacob Oliva, who is responsible for implementing Florida’s notorious “Don’t Say Gay” law, to head the Arkansas Education Department and immediately signed a law preventing trans teachers and students from using school bathrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identities.
Then she signed a 145-page education overhaul. It gives teachers a skimpy $ 2,000-a-year pay increase but completely bars them from teaching students about gender identity or sexual orientation. Huckabee Sanders apparently decided not to quit while she’s ahead and also signed an executive order to that bans teachers from discussing Critical Race Theory.
“Schools must educate, not indoctrinate students, and their education policies must protect children and prepare them to enter the workforce,” the order read. “Teachers and school administrators should teach students how to think—not what to think.”
Do you know what the opposite of “woke” is? It’s “asleep.” That’s what Huckabee Sanders wants for students in Arkansas.
And Twitter users had thoughts on Huckabee Sanders’s teacher appreciation message.
From the state that ranks 49th in teachers’ salaries, just ahead of Mississippi 🙄

Taking a break from calling teachers indoctrinators? pic.twitter.com/4b1D9kywqd

"Thanks teachers, but y'all are a bunch of pedophiles and indoctrinators, beware what you say because now you can be fired with no teacher fair dismissal act lmao"

5th lowest pay in the nation for teachers. Miserable teaching conditions; overcrowding, old materials, failing infrastructure. Wow thanks teachers for putting up with this.

AYKM??? You trash teachers by saying they are indoctrinating students and bash them for teaching the mythical CRT. You made it easy to fire them and made their continuing education useless. You literally ran on a ‘AR teachers suck platform’ GFY

"Thank you to every Arkansas teacher for your service…" Now you're all fired, you pinko, commie, America hatin' pedophiles!

This is hypocrisy at its worst. You accuse teachers of “indoctrinating” students. You say they’re “grooming” kids into some sort of evil conspiracy. You threaten to cut off schools because you think they’re failing.
Oh, but you love and appreciate them?? 🙄
