REPORT: Trump’s Loyalty to Co-Defendant and ‘Diet Coke Valet’ Walt Nauta Might Be Waning

Former President Donald Trump has apparently remained loyal to the aide that federal prosecutors have named as a co-defendant in the case against Trump stemming from allegations that he mishandled classified documents.

For the time being anyway.

However, as noted by Slate, it’s anyone’s guess how long Trump will remain loyal to Walt Nauta, who has been fiercely loyal to the ex-president. Since Trump is the way he is, this could change at any moment.

Nauta, who’s a 40-year-old military veteran who gained the nickname Trump’s “Diet Coke valet” because he served the former president in the White House, was charged last month with six counts over allegations that he assisted the former president in moving and hiding classified documents and then lied to investigators about it, Raw Story reports.

Nauta pleaded not guilty to all charges at his arraignment Thursday. The arraignment was delayed twice because Nauta hadn’t secured a local attorney to represent him.

He served as Trump’s executive assistant and was paid $135,000 by a pro-Trump PAC, according to the report.

And Trump extolled Nauta’s virtues in a June 9 post on Truth Social, writing:

“I have just learned that the ‘Thugs’ from the Department of Injustice will be Indicting a wonderful man, Walt Nauta, a member of the U.S. Navy, who served proudly with me in the White House, retired as Senior Chief, and then transitioned into private life as a personal aide. He has done a fantastic job! They are trying to destroy his life, like the lives of so many others, hoping he will say bad things about Trump.”

Trump didn’t leave it at that.

“He is strong, brave, and a Great Patriot. The FBI and DOJ are CORRUPT!”

Slate, however, is suggesting that Nauta has plenty of reasons to question just how long Trump will remain in his corner.

“Trump’s goodwill could be short-lived—just think of Michael Cohen, a previously staunch Trump ally whose relationship with the former president turned sour,” writes Slate’s Shirin Ali. “When Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison for tax fraud, he told the courtroom, ‘I have been living in a personal and mental incarceration ever since the day I accepted the offer to work for a real estate mogul whose business acumen that I deeply admired.”

I think it’s safe to say that Trump will flip on Nauta to save his own skin. That’s always been the way he rolls and I doubt it will be different here. I’m hoping Nauta will offer the necessary evidence when he testifies. Perhaps he’ll have time to reflect on the fact that Trump will likely turn on him.

After all, Trump is really only interested in Trump.
