We all know that the political Right has a penchant for distorting the truth. It doesn’t just go back to Trump’s White House Press Secretaries, or Bill Barr, or even Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. They are fully committed to a constant stream of completely unaccountable nonsense so far removed from the truth that they make used car salesmen look like youth pastors.

Some, however, aren’t quite as good at it as the regulars I already mentioned.

Laura Ingraham, who inexplicably still appears on television despite being a horrible person, showed a deceptively edited version of a video of President Biden speaking to the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law. He was making points about racism and the roots of our most nefarious danger, domestic terrorism. He pointed out that study after study by experts in the field shows white supremacy is the basis for what has ended up being the greatest danger in America today: Right-wing extremism.

From Biden’s comments:

“White supremacy is a poison. It’s a poison. It’s been allowed to grow faster and fester in our communities to a point where the intelligence communities determined, the US intelligence communities determined that domestic terrorism rooted in white supremacy is the greatest terrorist threat we face in the homeland, the greatest threat. We have to act.”

There’s nothing in this that could remotely be considered controversial. It is 100 percent true.

However, during her anti-Democrat screed on The Ingraham Angle Tuesday night, Laura decided in was Dems who were lying, and she showed an edited video that removed the part where the President said “…to a point where the intelligence communities determined, the US intelligence communities determined that…”

That completely changes both the tenor and tone of the statement, but also removes important context: This isn’t President Biden’s opinion — it’s that of the NSA, FBI, and the rest of our intelligence apparatus in America.

You can’t just pretend that the guys you want to love never said the things you don’t agree with.

Worst of all, during her rant and the airing of the carefully crafted clip, Ingraham ran an on-screen graphic saying it was Democrats who were being untruthful, with a chyron that read “DEMS BACK TO LYING ABOUT AMERICA.”

No, Laura. You’re lying. Right now.
