Trump Insiders Freaking Out After Trump Confessed to Crime on National TV

That's certainly what it sounded like to us.

Earlier this week, we reported on Donald Trump’s interview with Megyn Kelly. During the far-ranging talk, Trump at one point told Kelly that if Democrats hadn’t impeached him, Republicans might not be trying to impeach President Biden now.

As we pointed out in our previous article, however, Trump’s two impeachments stemmed from actual documented activities. The inquiry being started now by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has no such documented evidence against Biden.

That leads one to believe that Republicans are simply turning the impeachment process into a retaliatory tool against their political opponents. That is, of course, what Trump accuses the Democrats of doing. If that were true, however, Democrats would have had to start an inquiry to get some evidence, as the Republicans are doing, rather than simply seeing if the evidence that already existed added up to something worth impeaching over.

The actual quote from Trump on the Megyn Kelly show was damning:

“They did it to me. And had they not done it to me, I think, and nobody officially said this, but I think had they not done it to me, and I’m very popular in the Repu– and they like me and I like them, the Republican Party, perhaps you wouldn’t have it being done to them.”

Following that interview, Anderson Cooper hosted noted Trump expert Maggie Haberman, who has been writing about Trump based on leagues of experience. He played the clip of Trump saying that, and Haberman agreed with the assessment:

COOPER: I mean, he’s basically admitting it’s retribution and that there would be more retribution on indictments.

MAGGIE HABERMAN: It’s not like he’s been particularly subtle on the idea that retribution is coming if he comes back into office, but that is something that people have been hoping to avoid him saying explicitly around this Biden impeachment inquiry because it does make it seem as if it is less on the level. It makes it harder for Republicans who are going to get dragged into this to sell it in districts that are more centrist and so forth.

After pointing out that Trump had actually met with a number of House Republicans personally prior to them announcing the impeachment inquiry into Biden, Haberman said, “I expect you will hear more of it. But that was a surprisingly candid statement that one person who is an ally of his described as a confession to me about an hour ago.”

Trump does this all the time — accidentally confesses his intentions because he’s just so proud of how sneaky he’s being.
