GOP Hypocrisy

‘A Catastrophe for America’: Ohio Newspaper Publishes Scathing Rebuke of Jim Jordan, ‘No Worse Human’

One of Ohio’s leading newspapers published a powerful rebuke of Representative Jim Jordan in a letter to the editor as Republican congressman emerges as a leading contender for Speaker of the House.

Since Jordan represents Ohio, you know he has to be bad news when a newspaper from his very own state drags him through the mud.

Tuesday, Representative Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) became the very first House speaker in U.S. history to be ousted from office via a motion to vacate. That’s almost as distinctive as former President Donald Trump’s two impeachments and four indictments.

Way to go Kev!

The motion to kick him to the curb was raised by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), a MAGA fanatic after McCarthy was bold enough to work with House Democrats to pass a spending bill to temporarily prevent a government shutdown, after weeks of stalling from the House’s further-right, which was calling for steeper spending cuts.

In the aftermath, a spate of Republican lawmakers are now seeking the office, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana, and Jordan, who is House Judiciary Committee Chair. Jordan has been endorsed by Trump and the House GOP will gather on Wednesday for an internal election to determine who their candidate for speaker will be. Democrats will likely put forward House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who would be an excellent choice, but let’s remember Republicans are part of this mix so anything logical is unlikely.

Responding to Jordan’s becoming a favored candidate, The Columbus Dispatch, Ohio’s second-largest newspaper behind The Plain Dealer, published a letter to the editor titled, “Electing Jim Jordan speaker would be a catastrophe for America.”

The letter to the editor was about as scathing as such things get.

“With Trump’s endorsement, I am assuming Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, will win,” wrote Columbus resident Randal Morrison. “That is a catastrophe for America. There is no worse human being to have a leadership position than Jim Jordan. Terrible for policy — Ukraine, the economy, the planet, and justice for those not like him.”

“It would be terrible for ‘process’ — the end of the civility and finding a problem-solving path forward as well as strong democratic institutions. That catastrophe ultimately means one of two things: either all hope is lost or the resulting turmoil breaks the MAGA fever before it is too late. Because of our constitutional structural vulnerabilities, I fear the worst.”

Jordan has represented Ohio’s 4th District since 2007 and when Republicans took control of the House in January, Jordan has chaired the House Judiciary Committee, where he’s been particularly odious. He’s led various investigations into President Joe Biden and his family members that at least some have criticized for not producing any substantial evidence of wrongdoing.

Of course, some prominent House Republicans, including Gaetz support his candidacy. Gaetz has characterized Jordan as his mentor. It has, however, also drawn harsh criticism from Democrats, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Talking to CNN on Thursday, Clinton observed:

“[Jordan] is one of the principal ringleaders of the circus that’s been created in the Republican Party for the last several years…when you look at the extremists in the House they certainly don’t represent a majority of the country and somebody has to stand up and say ‘enough.'”

I do hope someone stands up. Jordan has a noodle for a spine, and he’s leading these investigations into the Biden family, that are little more than a waste of taxpayer money.

Let’s not forget that Jordan worked tirelessly to try and steal the 2020 presidential election for Donald Trump. He accused a nine-year-old rape victim of “lying” so that she could get an abortion. That’s who this man, who will be third in line to have access to the nuclear codes, is.

Lastly, let’s also not forget that during his time as an assistant coach with Ohio State University from 1987, a huge scandal broke after it was revealed team doctor Richard Strauss was sexually abusing wrestlers at the time. Jordan continues to deny he was aware of the goings-on, but several former wrestlers insist he was fully aware.

Republicans, who are always so straight-laced and repressive about sex, except when it comes to LGBTQ+ related issues, and then they all turn into pit bulls ready to attack the rights of this community, are willing to sweep Jordan’s shameful behavior under the rug.

They want this man to be House Speaker. Disgusting.
