What Suzanne Somers Said About Supporting Donald Trump Might Surprise You — Big Time

Actress Suzanne Somers, who died Sunday at the age of 76, was an open supporter of Donald Trump.

The beloved Three’s Company star passed away at home in the early morning hours of October 15, according to a statement posted to her official Instagram account, Newsweek reports. Somers would have turned 77 on Monday.

“She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years. Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family,” the statement read. “Her family was gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th. Instead, they will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”

Somers praised Trump in 2018 and in a video on TMZ, remarking on Trump’s first year in office she noted:

“I’m happy about him. I’m happy that the economy is doing so much better. And now my career is over!”

In previous interviews, Somers said she wasn’t thrilled with Barack Obama’s administration.

“This has been the most divisive of all the administrations that I’ve ever experienced in my lifetime,” she told Fox Business in 2014. “And it’s become divisive in the industry that if you’re not part of the group, you should probably keep your thoughts to yourself.”

Maybe that’s still true but I’m not sure. There are plenty of Trump-supporting celebrities like James Woods, Kid Rock, Jon Voight, and the late actress Kirstie Alley. You’d sure never know if they were being discriminated against.

Somers, a New York Times bestselling author has always been open to talking about politics. She shared her thoughts with HuffPost about voting in 2012.

“My politics are very personal: I am an independent and vote the candidate, never the party,” she said. “I am also an entrepreneur, and entrepreneurs made America the most exceptional and wealthiest country in the world, excelling in technology, science, medicine, physics, literature, and, most of all, self-reliance and unbridled imagination.”

“I love America and feel blessed to have been born into the greatest idea since the dawn of civilization.”

Somers obviously lived in a rarefied world. But it sounds like she did have to work her way up.

“Well, I grew up poor, and I live a good life,” she told Dax Holt and Adam Glyn on their “Hollywood Raw” podcast, Yahoo reports.

Somers earned a serious chunk of change promoting the Thighmaster, which made her a household name all over again.

On the podcast, she estimated what she probably earned from the best-selling exercise equipment. “It’s $19.95 x 10 million [products sold], so you kind of do the math, and we’re probably at 15 million now.” Somers owned the rights to this product, and it earned her an estimated $100 million.”

So it’s rather sad that this seemingly intelligent woman was a Trump supporter. Even so, many celebrities are saddened by her death.

“OH NO,” wrote Real Housewives of New York City on Instagram.

“Sad so sad,” Goldie Hawn also noted on Instagram. Olivia Munn posted “Oh no,” alongside a broken heart emoji.

Caitlyn Jenner also posted on her own Instagram, sharing a photo of herself and Somers.

“We lost a true American Icon today,” she captioned the image. “@suzannesomers you will be missed. It was always a pleasure and a riot working with you over the years! Here we are back in the 70’s at Pepperdine with Howard! Rest in Peace.”

Obviously, many of us remember her for her role on Three’s Company, and of course, for being a Thighmaster pitchwoman, she was also a best-selling author of numerous books.

She always seemed gracious to me, and I’m really pretty sad that she supported such an awful man. Obviously, a person can be intelligent and accomplished but still stupid in other ways.
