Former Trump Lawyer Says Orange Tyrant Could Be Locked Up Over His ‘Citizen’s Arrest’ Call

I'm buying the pizza if Trump goes to jail pending trial.

Trump’s ex-lawyer Ty Cobb, who defended him during the Mueller investigation (and was possibly his weirdest-looking attorney) went on CNN Wednesday to comment on Trump’s recent social media activity.

Cobb says that the former president’s repost of a user calling for a “citizen’s arrest” of both Trump’s judge in the New York trial and the state Attorney General is a lot like the incitement he did on January 6th, 2021.

“I WOULD LIKE TO SEE LITITIA JAMES AND JUDGE ENGORON PLACED UNDER CITIZENS ARREST FOR BLATANT ELECTION INTERFERENCE AND HARASSMENT” read the post that Trump “re-Truthed” on his social media platform. Of course it has since been deleted, but oh that internet…it’s forever!

Cobb told host Erin Burnett, “I believe that, at some point, comments like this will result in Trump not only being sanctioned — which will probably be the first order of business — but at some point these types of comments will result in him being put in jail pending some of these trials.”

That’s because in the gag orders that have been issued against Trump, he was specifically instructed not to go after officers of the court. Doing so would be a form of stochastic terrorism that could lead to harm coming to those he’s talking about.

The repeat of the Truth Social user’s post is exactly that — a call to arms.

Cobb went on:

“These are the types of incendiary attacks that do lead to violence. He specifically asked people to conduct a citizen’s arrest. Detention of either James or Engoron would be a crime if committed by any individual who was so motivated by the president’s remarks.

It continues to be off the rails in terms of the extent to which his invective infects these proceedings and has the potential to intimidate witnesses.”

Former US Attorney Barbara McQuade sounded much the same as Cobb in her reading of the situation:

“Trump’s statement is incredibly reckless in light of the history of people responding to his dangerous rhetoric. Someone could take violent action in response.

In addition, Trump risks incurring the wrath of Judge Engoron in the New York civil case. Currently, the gag order imposed by the judge relates solely to comments about court staff, but this statement could prompt the judge to expand its scope.”

An expanded gag order is exactly what Trump needs to get him in line. He has no respect for the rule of law, and should face actual punishment for blatantly trying to incite his followers against those he feels are persecuting him.
